haha, those damn oil companies, ruining service and destroying everything since the late 1800's. Pure evil. In my (limited, admittedly) experience... the IOGC have been the easiest to negotiate with!

They like casinos because they like to gamble. Look, if they had such similar values as we do, wouldn't you see a lot more success stories walking around?
I don't disagree with 4x4's point about mistrust, I think he's right, I just think they have a much different value system in addition to that divide.

Yes.
And in an ironic twist, he just found this out by reading this post.

Lemme get this straight... Walking away from the table after being denied yet again = railroading?

Because we want to shave our drive time down by roughly 5 minutes. Help us achieve this.

I must admit, this made me laugh.
Maybe next time whiteys, enjoy working for the man and being stuck in traffic all day, we'll enjoy living in our crappy houses with no central heating.

It was those hypocrites that stuck their nose into our business, that's why we are having this conversation right now. If they wanted to be left alone, they would shut the hell up and do whatever it is they do on the reserve, and leave us to plan our road on our land.
Incidentally, why haven't you answered a single question directed at you? I realize your position is indefensible, but dude, you gotta at least try.

Glad you've got a sense of humour. So if your band is (and assumably always was) against this, why keep the negotiations open for so long?

I actually know quite a few Tsuu T'ina folks, and a good chunk of them are hard-working citizens, that make a good living for themselves. Not one of those success stories that I know actually live on the reserve, though.
The band likes casinos because casinos make them gobs and gobs of money, not because it gives them something to fill their day with.

Keep in mind, the people never wanted this ring road, no matter how much money you whiteys threw at us, we would have turned it down.
Our corrupt leaders are the ones who wanted to negotiate, for their own personal gain.
The native people of this land don't place value on the material objects that you all love so much. Please, just let us live in peace and try to find happiness, and we will do the same for you.

Fair enough. Sounds like you people need to address the problem of your corrupt leaders. They've been stringing us along for quite awhile. I bet they've been doing the same to you.

I love the racism. Why don't you say it was about your leaders and then move on to why it wasn't good for your band instead of just being an idiot? You probably wouldn't find a more courteous group of anonymous strangers.

Why do I see so many native people of this land driving such big trucks? Come on... you aren't any different from us.

Then tell your leaders to shut up.
But please, spare us this "we don't care about materialism" argument. Your corrupt leaders are butting into the city's plans specifically because of materialism, and even more specifically over how much money they stand to lose if it is harder to get to the casino.
The city and its people were moving on to other plans. This entire discussion would not be happening if not for your leaders. So save your pleas for the people who need to hear it. If your values actually do reflect the wishes of your community, then it is incumbent on you to ensure that your leaders actions reflect your values.

Keep in mind, our leaders are propped up by your government. No different than when people in the USA vote for a president - they are given two choices. "None of the above" is not an option given to us. We need to reform the system but you whiteys would never let us do this because you don't want to negotiate fairly, you'd rather just buy off one or two guys at the top instead of actually giving us all fair value.
Why do you think we turned down the proposal when our leaders wanted it so much? We're sick of the white man and his shady negotiating tactics. You're just like a big huge car salesman, you think you're so smart and slick. We showed you, enjoy being stuck in traffic.
If we were that into material things, don't you think we would have taken the money? I'd rather live in a cardboard box than take money from you white people.

If you live on a reserve and you are in fact native, then I hope you have that box bolted down.

It's still all our fault, eh? Your leaders are corrupt because of us? And you'll cut off your nose to spite your face by making us wait in traffic? Okie dokey. Enjoy hating the world.

I, along with most fair-thinking "whiteys" would love to end this embarassment of an apartheid system we've got going where 30% of aboriginals are holed up on reserves, basically living in slum housing, and having your culture/families completely destroyed.

Dude, I don't know where you are coming from, but there is no whitey. Sorry, just like you aren't all a bunch of Indians, all of us aren't a bunch of fat racist whites. Goes both ways. When you start spouting off this garbage, I can probably peg what kind of person you are.

Chances are, if you live on a reserve, you do take money from the federal government. Just a note here, Canada is not composed of all whiteys. Get a clue, man.
