If you like his Alice in Chains work, you won't be disappointed by this. Spiderbite, Chemical Tribe and Angel Eyes are excellent tracks. A very underrated guitarist IMO.
Get ready, Paul Shaffer, you're going to have a little competition: Drummer extraordinaire ?uestlove, whose band the Roots are allegedly set to act as the house band for NBC's Late Night when Jimmy Fallon takes over for Conan O'Brien in 2009.
The Following User Says Thank You to troutman For This Useful Post:
I hear they are in the studio working on a new AIC album BTW.

For the third round, in the Rock & Roll category, I pick The Velvet Underground & Nico by The Velvet Underground.
It's tough to pick a favorite out of their four records but I think the nod has to go to this one. I'll never forget exactly where I was and exactly how I felt the first time I ever heard Heroin.

Fantasmic pic... One I gave some serious consideration to prior to making each of my previous picks. What is it they say? Everyone who got their hands on an original pressing of that album started a band... And the seeds were sewn for the punk/alternative explosion of the 70s with this band, and this record specifically.
For my next pick I choose for the Metal category Municipal Waste's The Art of Partying Limited Edition
In a time when I am pretty much sick of most metal bands in existance. Municipal Waste brings it. They remind me that having fun is sometimes more important than being technically amazing, although Dave Witte might be the best drummer in the world but you would have to listen to his past projects to know it. These guys play Thrash in the vein of Anthrax and pull it off wonderfully. You know a band is good if Troma makes their music video.
"Pre-Game" – 0:39
"The Art of Partying" – 2:04
"Headbanger Face Rip" – 1:51
"Mental Shock" – 1:48
"A.D.D. (Attention Deficit Destroyer)" – 2:12
"The Inebriator" – 2:07
"Lunch Hall Food Brawl" – 1:58
"Beer Pressure" – 2:37
"Chemically Altered" – 2:21
"Sadistic Magician" – 2:09
"Open Your Mind" – 1:54
"Radioactive Force" – 2:27
"Septic Detonation" – 1:20
"Rigorous Vengeance" – 2:12
"Born to Party" – 4:20
"Thrashing's My Business... And Business Is Good" – 1:43
"I Just Wanna Rock" – 2:09
HeadBanger Face Rip
I Just Wanna Rock (Maybe my favorite)
Sadistic Magician

It will be a bit harder to notice when you turn comes, perhaps the person who picks should PM the next person.
Just a thought

With my next pick, I am proud to select in the category of Album: 2006-08, Tool's 10,000 Days.
I know I said I would be endeavoring to pick some stuff that may not be familiar to most, but in this category I have to pick this album. It is by far the best album I have bought in the last three years. It is one of those records that I can listen to from start to finish and can't stand to skip tracks. It's that good. I adore it!
The first two youtubes are songs that focus on the life and death of Maynard James Keenan's mother Judith (Marie).
from wiki.. Marie is the middle name of Keenan's deceased mother, Judith Marie Garrison. As Keenan explains in his commentary on A Perfect Circle's aMOTION DVD, she suffered a stroke that left her partially paralyzed and wheelchair-bound. The length of time between the paralysis and her death was 27 years, or approximately 10,000 days.[13] Prior to her death, during their 2002 tour, the band debuted an instrumental portion of "Wings for Marie"; the finished song contains lyrics referring to a funeral service and the song ends with the sound of a casket closing. Both songs, "Wings for Marie" and "10,000 Days", were written for his mother.

Ill Communication, released in 1994, saw the Beastie Boys' return to the top of the charts when the album debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 & peaked at #2 on the R&B/ hip hop album chart. The single "Sabotage" (sample (help·info)) became a hit on the modern rock charts and the music video, directed by Spike Jonze, received extensive play on MTV. "Get It Together" reached Top 10 of the Billboard dance charts and also became an urban hit while "Sure Shot" was a dance hit. Some Old Bull, featuring the band's early independent material, made #50 on the Billboard independent charts.
I remember hanging out with a buddy of mine, and his brother had this CD... blew my mind. From easily one of my all time fave songs "Sabotage", to the catchy "Sure Shot" and "Root Down", a sweet collection of yelling, screaming, but also a great look into what Rap should be about. Not money, cash, hoes... but I believe someone back in the day rhymed about "the message". Lyrically one of the greatest rap acts to ever come out. And "Flute Loop" is just genious.

ROOT DOWN remix (not on album. I'd never heard until posting this):
I was originally going to pick The Wall because I really love grandiose works of art and because I still like that album (unlike many of my friends, who seem to associate it heavily with teenage angst; good thing I only started listening to Floyd well into my twenties). However, I decided to go for a pick I'd much rather recommend to someone who has never actually listened to a complete Pink Floyd Album.
First, this is a better album. Sure, The Wall might be a classic, but it's actually a very bloated piece of work with many more weaknesses than Wish You Were Here, which is just a remarkably high quality work of rock art in every good sense of the word. Second, this is much shorter.
Seriously, if you've never listened to a complete Pink Floyd album, you've never even heard the band. You should try it. Generally speaking I don't listen to progressive rock, but when it's this good, I can't help but love it.
For our 3rd round pick, team Twist/Shout picks Wish You Were Here (1975) by Pink Floyd in the Rock category.
Track listing:
1) Shine on You Crazy Diamond (parts I-V) [Gilmour, Waters, Wright] 13:31
2) Welcome to the Machine [Waters] 7:30
3) Have a Cigar [Waters] 5:08
4) Wish You Were Here [Gilmour, Waters] 5:26
5) Shine on You Crazy Diamond (parts VI-IX) [Gilmour, Waters, Wright] 12:28
