Draw your own conclusions from this, but really... this is a pretty sad way to run an organization. Regardless of whether you believe HS pitchers have better upside than College pitchers, excluding half of the pitching talent pool, just based on principle is a really awful philosophy to pursue.
I'm even against his anti-Boras stratagy, I mean Boras does make Don Meehan look like a p*ssy, but really, if it means drafting the BPA, and paying a little more for it, I think you simply have to do it.
Heck, Stephen Drew dropped 14 or 15 spots one year and Matt Bush (both were ShortStops), the inferior prospect who would sign for cheap, was drafted first overall (even though Drew was clearly the superior player. Now Stephen Drew looks like an absolute stud and possible cornerstone for Arizona at such a young age, where Matt Bush is struggling in A ball, with already millions in signing bonuses completely wasted on him.

I guess from the Jays prospective if they draft a player who has Boras as an agent and Boras makes them pay a fortune to sign the player. The Jays obvious concern is what happens if the player is a flop?
I wonder if other MLB GMs are taking the same stance against Boras?

It is like buying a lottery ticket. You can pay 50$ and have a 30% chance to win the jackpot or pay 75$ and have a 40% chance to win it. Boras always manages to represent some of the best and brightest young stars.
Quite a few refuse to deal with him. Last summer Carlos Lee I believe fired Boras shortly after he hired him, because the amount of teams he could go to was severely limited.

True but in this case the lottery tickets are worth > $1M. If I was JP if two prospects were even close I would not deal with Boras either.

Nor would I, but then again, there are usually some pretty big gaps in talent. If the guys are close, then yeah.

I am not sure why JP even made it public knowledge that he would not draft a Boras player. Not a classy move by a GM.

I suppose the thing in Baseball is that the talent pool is so wide spread and with only having like a year to sign a player an element like Boras can throw a real wrench into a draft thats already the biggest crap shoot out there.
But on the other hand, doesn't J.P. have an absolutely horrible draft record himself. I think he's been GM for 5 years and the Jays didn't have one homegrown starter whom he drafted. Baseball takes a long time for players to develop, but he's had some high picks in those early years.

Wholy, Vernon Wells has been absolute garbage this season. He looks terrible batting, I hope he gets out of the horrible funk soon.

he really looks like he'd pressing at the plate to get things done. when he does get a good pitch to hit he fouls it back or pops it up just outside the infield. once he stops trying to homer every at bat he'll start hitting line shots everywhere.

Looks like Arcado coughed this one up in the 9th. 3 runs for the Twinkies. Jays also had the lead in the 12th and couldn't hold.
Arcado has been good though in the closer's role up until this point.

yeah, extra innings win! Clayton with a clutch double, Overbay knocks him in. Tallet with 2.2 scoreless innings for the win.

McGowan pitched a gem tonight! He has been better of late and it is looking like he is finally developing into a solid major league starter. The kid has top of the rotation stuff if he can harness his command, he's absolutely lethal when he's getting ahead of batters.

Winning or not the young Jays hurlers are certainly making for an interesting start to the season. Watching Accardo & Janssen dominate and Marcum, McGowan find themselves as starters has made for quite entertaining ball thus far.
Now if only the bats could get on track....

...and the bats were supposed to be the strong suit of the Jays.

It's been a trademark of the JP era Jays. They either have the offence and the pitching doesn't have it. Or the pitching and defence is pretty good, but the offence is too anemic.

The pitching took a hit when Zaun went down, along with the obvious pitching injuries(Ryan, Chacin, Halladay, League, etc.). He's the guy who's supposed to be calling all the games this year. As a result, the offence started gripping the bats too tight during the 9 game losing streak, and worked themselves into a nasty slump. Strangely, we've been getting some great pitching now for the most part..........hopefully Johnson, Zaun, and Halladay coming back will spur a nice 9-game win streak to put us back in the wild card race. I'd take satisfaction from a sweep of the yanks alone.

Excellent game by Marcum, and Accardo looks solid again for the win.
Glaus is too hurt to play, but comes in for the 9th? I guess the only other options were Stairs and Fasano, but that was a bit strange.
Either way, big win........Hill stealing home was easily the play of the night. Loved it!
