Yes!!

Jays rotation looks great now! This would have been my first choice.

I’d seen the Jays connected with Framber Valdez and much prefer Cease. This is awesome.

Scherzer did an interview yesterday and sure didn't sound like someone who was planning on leaving: https://streamable.com/vcd5of

Maybe he comes back on a team-friendly deal and a reduced workload

Great start to the off season. Now let's sign Tucker and/or Bo.

I think Cease will benefit huge with the Jays D behind him.

This signing makes the Jays even more attractive now for other signings.

I fully expect Bo to come back or Tucker to sign here. If the Jays are spending maybe they get both.

I also think they go and get a more proven closer too.

Apparently involves deferrals. Should lower the luxury tax hit and make it possible for the Jays to keep adding more big ticket signings.

He's most likely the 5th starter. I don't think that contract is easily movable.

Yeah, Barrios' contract is $24M for another 3 years. It's not totally bad but it's inflated. I could see some creative accounting to get rid of him somehow. Re: Scherzer, unless he's coming back as a reliever, there should be no room for him on that starting 5. Anyway, what a signing.

Cease’s AAV is only $9m more than Bassitt’s was (signed 3 years ago) so it’s not that outrageous of a deal at all.

Welcome to the team!

They said Red Sox asked for him for Devers last year

I think Jays would need to eat some salary but I don’t see them bringing back a 25 million fifth starter who hasn’t said a peep since he got injured other then being “annoyed” with the team at the time of his rotation demotion

Go step on Lego, you evil evil man. Even putting this into the world should be bannable.

Cease was the guy I wanted going into this off season. I am beyond excited now. This off-season started with so much trepidation for me. I had no idea how they could possibly repeat with what they had going in and their track record in previous off-seasons. Beiber staying and now Cease is unreal. Their a Bo and a Bat away from this being perfect.

Great pickup.
There’s more to be had from the Padres.

My favourite NL team and had their window for a few years now, and had a well constructed team, but are just in the wrong division. The legacy of the previous owner to spend to get a championship was carried on here for a couple years after he passed, but with it still a small market and no TV deal it’s kind of back to the land of mediocrity for a while.

They had an excellent bullpen which should be the next target for the Jays.

I hope not. Berrios has his warts. But as a bottom of the rotation innings eater. Why not? It's not our money. Rogers is spending so let it ride.

They aren’t (in 99.9% sure ) going to go over the 2nd luxury apron

You don’t need a 5th started making 25 million

That’s 3 bullpen arms or a Bo resign $$
