You need to develop players not everyone will be tearing it up right away. Bennett came here when the team tried to fast track the rebuild and try to compete when the team still needed building.

Look at some of AC's Sam Bennett videos from his younger years. He would dish sweet dimes and his linemates would shoot right into the crest. He would make nice zone entries and have no one skating with him. Or he would have instant chemistry with Gaudreau and then find himself demoted the next game if puck luck didn't go their way.

He didn't change his game in Florida. He was just handed the keys that Calgary thought were better off in the hands of Backlund and Monahan. Who, while really good players, could have still helped us in more secondary roles.

Sutter used him as a 4th line LW too, not sure why people always reference that. What Quennville did wasn't anything fancy... he just immediately had him centre Huberdeau and let his confidence grow back to a top five overall pick's confidence level.

I think both Bennett and Marchand are gone, Marchand for sure. Someone will give these guys way more than Florida can and Bennett especially has his first chance to get a big contract. Marchand also has been underpaid his entire career and left Boston because they didn't want to give him an extra year. That ain't happening in Florida for sure.

It's the exact same situation as with Gaudreau, yet Treliving learned nothing.

World champions usually keep the team together. I just can’t see Sam leaving. It’s been a great fit for the team and player. 3 ECF appearances 2 title appearances and a championship. Plus Florida has no state tax.

If he’s getting 8x8 in Felicia vs 7x8.5 elsewhere it’s an easy choice. Just had to be done before July 1

I just don't see Zito giving Bennett eight years. Even seven is pushing it considering the way he plays but if someone offers him 9M x 7 then I think he's gone. He hasn't had his big contract yet.

Bill Zito is the guy who put the Panthers in the position for veteran players like Marchand and Tarasanko to choose to go there. So yeah, it's pretty easy but Zito is the one who made it easy.
