Russell and Ant each get 1 place grid penalties for leaving the garage before a restart time was announced in Q2.

I'm all aboard the Oscar train. My picks are an emotional hedge because I've thought Norris probably had his measure, but that's looking less and less true. When Norris edges out Oscar it's been by super fine margins, with Piastri riding Lando's gearbox in the races. When Oscar is ahead Lando is nowhere to be found.

Barring a problem for George or Charles I don't think Lando is getting on the podium tomorrow, unless he gets up to 4th in the first few laps.

Oooph. Probably not unreasonable for it to be a sporting penalty instead of a fine though. It moves them both to the clean side of the grid.

It makes Lando's job easier if he can beat Kimi off the start, but it could also mean a Gasly DRS train which helps Kimi defend...wouldn't be shocked if Max gets ahead on lap 1, too.

Wait maybe it actually was a master class. I was being sarcastic.

Lando ends up 3rd and keeps the driver's points lead. Verstappen finishes 6th and slips into the rest of the pack.

Curious is Russell can make the driver's title interesting and be the stick in McLarens mud. Because it sure doesn't look like Ferrari has their poop in a group.

Piastri had a nice clean drive today and fully earned that W.

Perhaps the widest gap between 1st and 2nd this year as well.

So much happened! Ferrari looked like they left both drivers out too long on the first stint and were due for a disaster but that worked out really well. Lots of bumping out there today. McLaren looks like they could win every race if they run a clean weekend. Is Merc the 2nd fastest car? Antonelli had a tough day but I think it is. Haas best of the rest? Alpine is a bit inconsistent and Williams has no luck but haas has the edge at the moment. The Aston is a slow. Stroll back to earth after a decent start to the season.

Jeddah is such a phenomenal track and it pains me to say it because what a crap country it’s in. It produces good racing, safety cars and puts the drivers right on the edge. It’s also a ton of fun to drive in F1 24.

Yeah even Toto admitted to poor tyre strategy for Antonelli
In his post race interview.

Really enjoyed that race. I haven't really had a rooting interest near the front since maybe 2012, but I finally feel engaged to root for Oscar, and against Lando/George, which is fun.

I'm surprised Russell and Merc didn't think to keep Leclerc within DRS range to defend against Norris. Especially after the accidental DRS open (which I caught live and did the DiCaprio gif)...back off by a half second to mitigate the advantage gained on that DRS open (though I just heard him claim that he did). Of course we now know that might have been easier said than done with the transponder issues, but the logic still makes sense. Especially since George needed to manage tires to the end anyways.

I also think the 5 second penalty on Lando's start was way too lenient. He made up 3 spots from the dirty side of the grid, which is unthinkable at Bahrain. I watched the starts from the last few years and I don't think anybody in the top 10 made up spots from the dirty side...it was about 50/50 whether they'd lose a spot though.

It would have been really interesting to see how it played out if there wasn't a SC. Just before the SC on lap 32 the gaps were:

RUS 18 lap Meds
+1.3 LEC 14 Lap Meds
+2.0 NOR 21 Lap Meds

I suspect Lando would have pitted around lap 34 for another 23 lap stint of Meds. George likely pits within another lap or two to cover, likely going to softs - but maybe there's enough time for him talk the team out of it, or they go copycat on McLaren - but I'm guessing they didn't have a quality set of mediums available.

LEC probably stays out until lap 39 or 40 and goes to softs, which would be ~6 laps younger than Lando's mediums. Hard to say how it plays out from there...maybe Lando ends up in George's DRS so Charles can't get by and things finish the same. But it's also possible LEC gets by them both considering George's problems.

Lots of action in that race. On the flip side, the TV direction was one of the worst yet.
