I watched the Flames in Edmonton.

The Flames played with intensity. A real tryout feeling. The Oilers did not with exception to a few players. McDavid and Draistatl especially were playing at 40% barely trying. So take whatever I say here with a grain of salt.

Andersson might be an elite player. I think he is in his prime.

Cooley played amazing. He might just steal a spot.

Huberdeau - Pospisil- Mantha looked like they had some chemistry.

Coronato is a top 6 player today. Obviously his shot is incredible but I was very impressed with his neutral zone defense.

Tindori played an amazing game. Loved his effort and quick poke checks in his own zone. A few great stops from the corner.

Honzek is going to be a special player. That said he is very quiet. Makes for some sneaky plays, but he is not going to jump off the page at you. A secret agent type player.

I love Lipinski. I just do. He loves the middle of the ice. I hope he can get is skating to the correct level.

Ciona. I wish he was more in your face today. He will live and die by his intensity.

Mews is good. I liked his game. Very young. Give him time.

Kuznetsov is close. I wish he was 100% with the puck in his own zone, but he is not.

Jurmo made a few nice plays under pressure to facilitate transition up the ice. Love to see that.

Rooney is a good journeyman. He will play well in relief.

I'd sign him just for spurning Edmonton.

Did Edmonton play the Norris winner they got from San Jose?

The Oilers played Bouchard more than 28 minutes tonight in a split-squad preseason game against the Flames' B team and they still lost

Insane to play your top D pair that many minutes in a preseason game

Bouchard better up that price to $12m a year at least

Oilers sure look stacked with depth after those off season pick ups.

I think this team will be very fun to watch this season. With how some guys are pushing, the Flames might have to actually trade a player or two, or risk waivers. Grushnikov and Coronato have both been consistently good.

This team may be as fun to watch as that 2013-14 rebuild year. Not as tough, or as much fighting, but fun to watch and will garner a lot of respect around the league.

Oilers are hilarious, however. I think they are in for a world of disappointment. Not nearly enough depth, especially considering how much hockey they have played. Outrageous that in a preseason game that they are overplaying some key players right away.

Montreal gets the better of Florida or Calgary's draft pick (if neither is top-10): I hope they're happy with picking 31st.

Grushnikov could turn out to be a steal. Plays much like Robyn Regehr.

I'll gladly take a 2015-like underdog season with a two round playoff appearance.

Oiler fans posting that “nothing really matters till May”
If they get a few injuries on the back end, is there a chance May won’t matter for them?

Or if they lose one of the big boys, they are absolutely cooked.
