Mogg, I think that giving a name like Corral has a much better chance of catching than Scotia place. No doubt people will just keep referring to this place as the dome with such a lame duck name trying to replace.

Scotiadome would have worked. It is like a play on saddledome. People could call it the dome but high chance scotiadome is used to differentiate from the old barn. plus it's kinda dopey but the masses like that.

I disagree. Corral opens up the same issue as Saddledome; Fans will say "It's at the Corral/Dome". Despite the jokes here, nobody is actually going to say "It's at the Place".

It will become Scotia Place in conversation, much like you hear and see everyone use Rogers Place in Edmonton. It's the arena/place/center that sponsors require to keep fans from omitting the sponsor, corral doesn't achieve that for them.

I guess one could mess with the paying sponsor and work hard to get everyone to call it the "ScotiaDump" which would serve them right for making such an awful generic name. Really stupid IMO. Distinction stands out in people's minds. Generic is like....kleenex (without the capital K).

You're on a fan message board, you're not in casual company. I can pretty much guarantee the number of fans that call a new arena the name of the old arena because they don't like the new one will be in the 10's of hardcore fans and 0's of casual citizens using the arena.

The name sucks, but nobody will care outside of brief discussions in the coming days, then it will be called Scotia Place by everyone whenever it is mentioned.
