With respect to Los Angeles, yeah, Blake has to live with the Dubois trade. A lot of people here want him fired. They have a Dallas-like setup with Doughty and Kopitar ready to hand it over to Kempe, Byfield, et al. Their bottom six and defense are good. I didn't love the Fiala trade at the time but who knew that Minnesota was going to get a Brock Faber that was this good. They had it set up pretty well if they just waited even with Turcotte likely busting.

Canes are well run, but like mentioned above they play like the 22/23 Flames. A bunch of shot volume from the outside. No star player to take over a game.
A Dallas like set up is great, but they will need a lot more.

Play it 1,000 times, they will win their fair share. You're a gambler.

Carolina needs to eventually push their chips in and take a shot at a superstar . They just don’t become available often and when they do don’t want to go to Carolina haha

Not sure why. The Triangle is a cool area; I'd way rather live there than New York or Florida.
But, to each their own.

Except they don't have a 1000 year window with the core...Just saying at some point they have to win something. They don't have what it takes obviously as is...they lost to the Rangers who where honestly outplayed pretty badly by the Panthers other than goaltending.

Neither of those teams has won anything either. It's kind of a hollow criticism.

The entire point is they have to win something if we are gonna call them the best managed team in the league...they are missing something obviously. If their management is that good they should be able to find it. Lets see. Flames were 2nd overall but we didn't feel that great about it when Colorado pounded them in the playoffs. The Canes got swept last season and this year it almost happened again.

Are they? So let's say they're an average playoff team. They'd have a 1/16 chance to win. A good team would probably be closer to 1/10. A great team 1/8 or even 1/6.
In four trials we're going to dismiss Carolina's approach? I think not. The Oilers changed the way they play and so did the Panthers. They're copying Carolina whose shot suppression is elite.
Yes, everyone was disappointed that year and, prior to that, kept telling us Neal was going to show up in the playoffs (spoiler: never happened). Probably my vote for worst player in Calgary history.

The margin in the league is very small; Florida didn't "pound" New York. It was a close series. Someone (unsure if it was you or not) said they "dominated" Carolina last year which clearly isn't true.

Yikes.. we need a doctor he has oilers hysteria!

I don't get people dissing Carolina? They have the pieces, they just don't have a goalie.
They get out goalied every year. They are a really good team otherwise.

Too bad we can't ban oiler fans from posting in this thread. I mean, we even let one make the thread.

I have a friend that said the same thing today.. he was born and raised here and wore his flames jersey way past its due date in 2004.. but today he started talking about how he’s happy seeing all his friends celebrate and be cheerful. He lives outside of Edmonton now and works there. I don’t know what to say… I lived in oil country (Grand prairie) for 8 years, and not once did I sway that direction.

One of the real problems here is that I teach Elementary school, and there are a solid portion of kids who are growing up McDavid/Oilers fans. I've heard a lot of talk lately about the Oilers and staying up to "watch the game". Even some of the teachers at my school have been wearing Oilers jerseys these last few weeks in an attempt to indoctrinate and brainwash. It's embarrassing. Aren't we supposed to be helping these kids know what's right and wrong?
Have my Flames flag hanging proud at my door and I make sure to #### talk any little twerp who looks like they might be an Oilers fan who walks by. Even the ones who might not be wearing any Oilers regalia but appear to be a little "Edmontonian" in nature, if you know what I mean.
Go Panthers.

I don't exactly buy that. The stanley cup final features starting goaltenders with .908 and .897 SV%. There's five goaltenders sporting .920+ SV% in the playoffs and they are all on eliminated teams. Andersen wasn't great but he also wasn't flat out bad. The Hurricanes just don't have the top end elite guys that can score a goal when they need it. Aho is a really good player but I can make a case he's less impactful in the playoffs as Sam Bennett. They have got to the conference finals a few times in the last decade so they have been close but the margins are slim for them when they face off against a team with elite gamebreakers.

The 2022 Calgary/2024 Carolina comparison is pretty apt. Some really nice players, solid depth. Not enough top end elite play, especially in the POs. Gaudreau and Tkachuk threw fits in the regular season. Tkachuk (the only real elite player) gets hurt and Gaudreau reverts to being a complimentary player in the POs.
