Not my golden boy. Not sure I have one to be honest ... maybe Backlund?
If you don't think your opinion is a little over the top and predisposed without actually watching games all good.

It can't even be this because I think Huberdeau has been PPG or just under PPG over his last 20ish games. Something like that.

Buddy makes a pass, big deal, that's just NHL stuff. But no, he mucks it up after the whistle, and suddenly he's a goddamn superstar. Give me a break.

Might that change? Maybe. But right now even though he's on a heater and playing well...its still not great.

I don't think he ever will live up to a 10.5M contract.
But some fans seem to treat it like it's a 10.5M over play, when in actual fact it's closer to 3.5M to 4M.

That's a fairly harsh take. The guy hasn't lived up to his contract, but he's greatly narrowed the gap on the value. He's playing like more of a 7-8 mil forward versus a 10.5, so the bad money right now is the difference between.
He's playing at a PPG pace in 2024, and doing that with fairly mediocre linemates (I love Sharangovich, but I don't believe he's a 1st line guy), and on a team that doesn't score a whole lot in general.
He seems like a really well-liked teammate and puts in a good effort every night.
He also get's a pretty rough ride from bitter fans like you. It's gotten better the last few months, but last year had to be pretty mentally tough on him - especially adding Sutter & his demeanor to the mix. I don't feel sorry for rich athletes as a general rule, but I couldn't help but have some empathy for what he was going through.

My own personal golden boy is Pospisil. Love that guy, love absolutely everything about his game. Have a hard time even looking at stuff he does objectively. Strongly feel he could end up being a 20-30-50 guy with speed and tenacity.
My personal golden boy is completely irrelevant to this irrational convo about Huberdeau but just wanted to put my love for Pospisil on the record.

So am I. People who worry that he will are being too paranoid.
At the start of the season I thought if they found themselves in a position where they were contending for the division that maybe Tanev would be used as an internal rental but they're obviously not at that point and he'll be moved.

Don't think I said anything about him being a superstar, just that he's been very good in the last couple of months. He's likely never going to satisfy many with that huge contract, but as Strange Brew posted earlier, that ship has sailed and if he can get back to close to a point a game average over the next few years, I for one will take that kind of production.

What a fun game that was. Always worried about facing the 0ilers these days, but a great time for everyone to show up. Loved the goaltending performance and great games by Coleman, Hanifin and Huberdeau. Angry Huberdeau is awesome.
This game was probably the first time it really hit me how much we are going to miss Hanifin if/when he's traded. With a season like he's having, I don't know how you can let a guy like that go. Who wouldn't want a top pairing guy like him on the backend? He probably has a decade or more of playing at this level. Of all the UFAs who will depart, he will by far be the one we miss the most.
But at the same time, I don't think the Flames have ever had a pending UFA playing like this who can garner the return he will. After seeing the return for Lindholm, the Flames have such an amazing opportunity to make that 2 significant returns for both players that can bring this retool to fruition. It will be exciting, but also very sad, to see him go.

Bye Elliott. The door will hit you.
They were notified in advance that this wasn't an 'Oilers dicksucking' competition right?
The only one not slobbering over the Oilers was Bieksa.
Think about this for a moment.
The 'Voice of Reason' was...wait for it....Kevin Goddamned Bieksa.
The rest of them should be fired. Hell. You could probably hire 4 or 5 actual decent journalists for the cost of a Friedman or McClean.
|
I think Bieksa is the best of the lot and does not play favorites. I would like to see him become host of that panel.

I noticed that the refs make really quick whistles for the Oilers as well. They blew the whistle for a delayed penalty against the Oilers while the Flames still had possession for example. But then other times when Vladar was freezing the puck, they would intentionally wait a couple of seconds to blow the whistle and stop the play allowing the Oilers to get a few hacks in. When Skinner did it, it was always an instant whistle. They also missed a blatant bench minor when the Oilers had 5 players on the ice during the PK. Taking Andersson out for an offsetting minor when McDavid was trying to maul him was pretty ridiculous as well.
I am pretty sure the league will never hold the refs accountable, because giving the Oilers an advantage is the intension. They put so much marketing investment into McDavid and need him in the playoffs to capitalize on it the most.

McDavid might be the worst superstar as far as marketability goes out of any sport. The guy is an absolute dry wall of a human as far as personality goes.

I've enjoyed watching Huberdeau for the past couple of months now. Not every game is going to be a banger, but he's been on more than off for while now. Last night I thought he was really engaged and made some smart plays at both ends of the ice.
It's probably just a coincidence, but he has seemed particularly more engaged and confident after Lindholm was moved. He seems to be taking charge and leading plays more.

Huberdeau has been great since the new year, and anyone who questions his work ethic or GAF meter simply isn't credible and shouldn't be taken seriously.
