Diallo delivers in his hometown to win the tie over Korea. Probably should have won the singles in straight sets, but his opponent caught fire and forced a 3rd set. Gabe then delivered a breadstick.

Bublik takes the title in Montpellier. Crazy that he won all his matches this week despite dropping the first set in each match. I have to think that's a pretty rare occurrence.

Vasek playing Davis Cup this past weekend despite taking a big hit rankings wise (dropping 330 spots) tells you all you need to know about how he feels about representing Canada.

Rare as in it's never happened before in ATP history.

Shapo and Felix are both in Marseille this week playing the Open 13 250 event. Shapo gets to play Hugo Gaston for the 2nd week in a row on Tuesday while Felix will face Quentin Halys.
Edit: Looks like Felix won't be in action until Wednesday.

Sounds like it's not easy working with Rune and his mother.

I'm sure that's part of it - I also wonder how easy it is for Becker to travel to certain countries with his criminal conviction for tax evasion.
Edit: Sorry, it was tax evasion way back in 2002, he was found guilty of hiding assets in his bankruptcy filing (i.e. fraud) in 2022.

Can somebody please teach our Canadian players how to serve? Three double faults in that game by Denis and Gaston breaks.
Edit: Some good tennis from Shapo to break and get back on serve. That's the thing, though, he makes things much more difficult than they need to be.

Who could have predicted more double faults creeping into a Shapo service game? Another break by Gaston followed by a hold to love and Hugo takes the opening set 7-5

Denis battens down the hatches and plays some smart tennis and wins set 2 6-1. I don't have a clue what to expect in the deciding set.

Denis was serving up a break at 3-2 in set 3. He then proceeded to lose four straight games and put up very little resistance. It was shocking even by Shapo standards.

I think Denis is going to be fully on the challenger tour shortly and even there he won't be able to win events with regularity unless he commits to changing his game and starts working harder for points.
It's a real shame when you have all of the tools but the toolkit is lacking.

It's such a shame as I enjoy watching him play as few players have that flair in their game that he possesses. He just has no consistency and it's to the point where either he's going to find that coach that can help him or he's just a lost cause.

Three easy fixes to Shapo's game:
1) Take some speed off the first serve to make more first serves - Sure, the number of aces will come down, but it will also reduce the number of double faults
2) Bring bigger margins into his game - He has more than enough power off both wings to put players on defense, no need to paint lines and play low percentage tennis
3) Improved shot selection - This is related to number 2 in that he needs to be more patient and work the rally until he gets a short ball. Unless a drop shot is perfect, Gaston has too much speed and will get to it and hit an easy winner. Keep him behind the baseline and wait for the short ball opportunity to pounce.

After reading a lot of Hugh Clarke over the past couple years, I wonder if he’s just let his technique slide into mechanically unsound territory, and the above can’t even happen without rebuilding his strokes. I don’t want Felix to fall into this type of hole either but the serve and routine groundstroke unreliability has to be something more than just mental.
