My brain can't fathom that kind of signing for the Jays...it can't be real

Somehow I doubt Rogers pays for a "Why not both?" plan there. If you could do it you'd certainly be a top contender though.
KK--> Soto
Belt--> Ohtani
would be a lot of extra run support.

Ohtani would be the biggest signing in Jays history.

Yes, but we're not LolMets. It works that way for the Mets because LolMets.

I’m sold on the team having interest, but not sold on the dollars commitment or the rumour itself. Simply put, some insiders have been saying Ohtani’s group has told interested teams to STFU about talks and if they don’t it could affect their chances of getting him. Based on that alone I could see the Yanks float this out there. If they were to get him it would be a treat to somehow pry the best player ever, Trout, with him in a deal. The thought of Trout in a Jays uniform is intriguing (not a rumour, just my made up scenario).

Ohtani is likely going to be the biggest signing in MLB history, monetarily anyways.
Until they sign somewhere else, I ain't giving up hope on the Jays landing Ohtani and Yamamoto. What an off season that would be.
That would free them up to use Manoah/Tiedemann as trade bait for a guy like Soto.

Wherever he goes is Probably a top 3 biggest signing in North American sporting history
What else would be up there? Nothing in the NHL. Lebron to Miami in the NBA. Messi to the MLS....maybe Brady to the Buccaneers in the NFL.

Rumblings that Bregman might be available because he's a free agent next year and the Astros aren't sure if they can extend him.

Bregman is the kind of quiet cocky sob the team needs. But at what cost? The top prospects can’t be dealt to leave the cupboards bare.

Baseball is weird, hard to say what his value would be in a trade with only 1 year of control left.

IMO:
Ohtani is going to effectively sign a 1 year deal.
It will be a big on paper deal, with year 2 and 3 opt outs.
He will opt out after next season or at worse in 2 years after he proves he can pitch again.
Does a 1 year 50 million $ deal to be a DH in Canada to build your international brand make sense...
Maybe

If the opt-out is only for the player you're taking on a lot of risk if he never pitches again and giving up the upside.

A two year opt out makes a lot more sense IMO, so that he can get back on the mound for a season before deciding to opt out or not.
Good grief imagine the rotation in 2025 if he were to do that, AND the Jays also landed Yamamoto.
Ohtani
Gausman
Berrios
Yamamoto
Bassitt / Manoah / Tiedemann

You can make a real business case for Ohtani because the Jays would make a ton of money with Japanese businesses, ticket sales, TV deals, etc. That might even be the $50 million so maybe you could also add a Soto. Having a pure DH might be tough when you have guys like Springer and Kirk but I think you find a way to make it work.

If the Jays do somehow land Ohtani, one of Vlad or Bichette is dealt, I'd guess. Unless they go all in for one season, then risk losing them for nothing. It's a tough decision to make because in a season you could be left with nothing if Ohtani walks.
