Lol Tre would be fired the next day

Nylander and Murray for Mangiapane and markstrom. Maybe the leafs add a pick or proof or something. If things aren't working out, the Flames can flip nylander at the deadline and it just clears cap space moving forward.

I don’t think Tkachuk ever planned on staying in Calgary long-term. And Treliving got the best deal available for him given his marching orders to remain a playoff team.

Sure seems to be a lot of built in excuses for Treliving, the idea that he wasn't allowed to trade Gaudreau has never once been mentioned.

But if they do LTIR Murray their cap situation isn't that bad.
They probably could sign Samsonov to similar money that Murray makes
If they did do a Hanifin for Nylander deal I think Hanifin would be cheaper to re-sign than Nylander.
Matthews is going to get big money but he already makes big money.
Marner is up at the same time as Tavares. I bet Tavares is gone or stays at a hometown discount. The 2 could actually come in less than the current $21 mil.
Reilly is locked up so if they added Hanifin and locked him up I don't look at this core as being not good enough and it's still very young.
They have lost to teams that went to the cup finals how many times? The East is stacked, so they lost early in the playoffs. They still have a great team with players we just don't have to build around.

I would assume the Leafs will try to dump Murray with a sweetener (Chicago, maybe), and they may do the same with Muzzin, which put their cap room closer to 20 million. Even if they don't for Muzzin, presumably they can just wait until day 1 and put him on LTIR. They'd have to be cap compliant to do that, but afterward they could go over by it.

Murray was healthy in the Florida series, so unless something happens to him in the summer, they can't.
Muzzin, on the other hand, they can.

Yeah that's what I'm saying, they can find a ton of reasons to LTIR Murray which would free up cap space for them. Not sure Samsonov & Woll are good enough but probably no other options.
Hanifin hasn't really impressed in the playoffs though, not sure if he's the guy Tree would want for Nylander. Maybe Andersson would be closer to value.

If this is the case, don't you hold Tre responsible for not trading Tkachuk sooner?
You're saying Tkachuk was never gonna stay but also implying Tre didn't know this until last summer when Tkachuk told him.
He got the best return possible last summer, when everyone knew the Flames were desperate and reeling from the Gaudreau blow.
But if you're so sure Tkachuk was always planning to leave, why is there no accountability on Tre to do something sooner?
Maybe the rumored opportunities to trade Tkachuk for Eichel as an example.
Don't let yourself get into such a corner; an obvious corner that was always coming according to you & others defending Treliving.

Sounds like you’re looking for someone to blame.
If Tkachuck didn’t tell Treliving he didn’t want to stay, then why on Earth would Treliving deal him?

I just pray the Flames don’t do a deal with the Leafs. It will trigger my Fletcher/ Gilmour deal PTSD.

Well sure it's possible, but it doesn't help the Leafs sign the needed roster players and be cap compliant on Day 1. Getting rid of Murray and/or Muzzin altogether would.

If Matthews left the Leafs at 24 and went on to lead a team to the finals you guys would be looking for someone to blame

Guy, I’m a Flames fan from Toronto. No need to ‘you guys’ me. You’re missing the mark.

come on now they are at least your 2nd team
anyway, the media and fans would be looking for someone to blame
a 24 year old player you drafted is leading another team to the finals...it is somebodies fault no?
I wish I had a job where results didn't matter
