I like Conroy... hopefully though, he takes a hard look at the organization under him.

Might not be a popular opinion, but it felt like a good time to clean house on the organization side, just like last year was a good opportunity to do the same on the player side...

Knowing that Calgary originally offerred the job to Maloney, who turned it down saying the Flames need to bring in new ideas and new voices, this is a move that seems to preserve the status quo especially if he doesn't revamp things like pro/amatuer scouting etc

We'll see what happens. Hoping Connie is a great hire.

Maloney has been in the org since 2016. He probably has a good idea what Conroy is all about

Conroy might be the oldest GM hire, but he has the energy of a young man

Quenneville absolutely knew and his response was as pathetic as anyone's:

According to Bowman's recollection of events, after learning of the incident, Quenneville "shook his head and said that it was hard for the team to get to where they were (in the playoffs), and they could not deal with this issue now."
I want no part of Quenneville here. He should never be in a position of authority again IMO.

I guess he’s saying on the date of the first Flames game with them as GM (not when they were named). Regular season, pre season? Who knows.

Conroy: Hey, it's Conny calling you back, sorry I missed your call!

Other GM: I didn't call - - - -

Conroy: So, honestly, our kid is a real gamer, skates like a deer, has a real nose for the net and really digs in when he's been given chances...

Other GM: Yeah but Conny, you're asking for a proven year over year 60+ point guy who just came off a - - - -

Conroy: and on top of him, I'm adding 2 more pieces that, you know, aren't nothing here!

Other GM: I'm aware of that, all I'm - - - -

Conroy: I know I mentioned this before, but remember the last time we played each other a couple months ago? He put up 5 points against you guys and the other 2 were skating through your team!

Other GM: Conny, I was there! I was sitting beside you for like half the game, I just need - - - -

Conroy: oh, and then another thing I HAVEN'T mentioned yet, the other piece you're - - - -

Other GM: okay, fine, deal. Deal! Just please, I need to go, I'm late for - - - -

Conroy: Sweet!

Interesting that this news surfaced immediately after the Wranglers were eliminated
Is the coach going to be announced too?

I want to see a combination of Love as Head Coach and Boudreau as the Associate to mentor him.

Why would our head coach need a mentor?

Because it's never a bad idea to have a mentor? Especially if it's your first time doing something. Someone to bounce ideas.

You realize even CEOs of big companies have mentors, right?

Reading through this thread and seeing people's hopes for a rebuild or a change in direction, I can't help but think those folks will be terribly disappointed (most likely). You do know that the MAJORITY OWNER isn't changing and that a new GM is being hired with the Owners' blessing? Right?

Changes there may well be (please! Starting with the 'tender coaches) but a change in overall directions seems to me VERY unlikely.

Nonetheless - I expect a significant change in tone and style and a more upbeat speedy team to emerge.

Has a vet coach ever done that before?

Anyone who still thinks there is going to be a scorched earth type of rebuild simply isn’t paying attention

Didnt Crawford basically do that with Chicago a few years ago. I am sure there have been some other examples.

If it hasn't been done, no better time to start than now.

Seems like the Flames might already be doing something similar by bringing in a guy like Nonis to help with Conroy.

Friedman on the 32 podcast:

only reason Friedman isn't saying it is 100% Conroy will be next GM is that he isn't convinced contract is signed yet so playing it safe

tt wasn't necessarily Conroy's job as the process started
Conroy gained momentum as it went through
Conroy made it clear that if he didn't get the job, it was time for him to move on from Calgary

organization felt that if a first time GM was going to beat Conroy for the job it had to be
an incredible candidate
they really had to get knocked off their feet to pick someone else

Flames want to bring in someone with experience to support Conroy
Friedman stresses that he GUESSES it is Nonis

Believes Iginla coming back to work with Conroy is a big part of this.
One more year for Iginla coacking his kid, then he will join organization in some capacity

On Coaches:

Not much more Mitch Love can do in the organization. Flames need to decide if he is the guy or not.

Same thing with Huska.

Kirk Muller will get a look. Heard Muller has interviewed elsewhere too.

Travis Green is on the radar.

Should mention Andrew Brunette. Huberdeau connection isn't insignificant.

Conroy and Iginla know Tanguay very well. Both think very highly of Tanguay and has a highly offensive mind.

Has heard Calgary wants to improve offense, not only in players, but how the players are taught, the way they play, encouragement of offensive game.

Marek throws out Marc Savard as a potential candidate. Friedman agrees.

Maybe Tanguay as powerplay coach? Might work better then a defensive specialist running the powerplay.
