How does Mark Hunter go from not being interested to interview to being a finalist that one is a head scratcher as well.

Who said he wasn't interested?

Notably, Seravalli said four external candidates were in town and proceeded to list three.

The way he words stuff is annoying.

Don't think I could have come up with a more depressing list if I tried.

Neither list is very exciting. Hunter probably would be my preference out of all of them but that is based more on hope than tangible results at the NHL level that I can point to.

Conroy remains a fine, but very unexciting hire. It is hard to imagine that his hiring results in great things for the Flames.

“I’m hearing that Mark Hunter may have been approached by the Flames and that he definitely did not reject meeting with them.”

I thought Bergevin was a pretty good GM, but he is apparently just savage to work with. Not sure a team still licking its wounds from last season needs a complete hard ass coming in right away.

Pretty sad though looking at the supposed finalist list, and Bergevin would probably be my second choice.

I’m hanging on by a thread as a lifelong Flames fan. If they bungle this one up it may push me past my breaking point.

Conroy really deserves this shot.

No idea how Hunter and Nonis are finalists.
Hunter should definitely be a finalist. For me it’s always been conroys job to lose. The only guy worthy on that list to beat him is hunter.

Yeah, I feel like I have been navigating a dungeon at 1 HP for about a year now, just barely hanging on. I won't say that I will quit or anything, but it's not feeling good either.

The names are a bit disappointing but I'm still excited for the fresh start and season.

Team still has some really good players and a injection of some youth and speed along with hopefully better coaching I can see us back in time mix.

My only reservations on Conroy is he seems very attached to ppl. How is he able to make hard decisions. I hoke we get to find it out and it's positive

I will say this, I am glad that Maloney and co. are interviewing everyone there is to interview. I am sure that some of the answers that these people have may indeed help shed some light on things that need to be addressed organizationally.

However, I also hope that Conroy ends up getting it. If I am Conroy, I am thinking: "If not now, then when?". He has been groomed for this role since 2010 when he became the "Special assistant to the interim gm", and has worked in every facet of the organization, including scouting. If I am him and I don't get this job, I may feel like I am not sure I want to stay here another 3-10 years waiting for another shot. He may be better served moving to a different organization in order to get his shot.

I think it will be him anyway. Unless someone comes in with a really good plan of action that impresses everyone, I can't see it not being Conroy at this point. I guess we will find out in a rather short amount of time.

I don't like that list. Conroy and Hunter stick out with Hunter being the leader (IMO), but the other two just aren't good. So your finalist set comprises of two mehs. Hunter being the leader of the Knights organizationally focuses on skill and getting skilled hardworkers. It seems to be in that teams' DNA. So on that note I like him. Conroy I like the human being. If they do go with Hunter, I do hope they up Conroy's salary so he can be the 1B with Hunter, rather than the scorned runner up.

How is Bowman allowed to interview for a job while if any team wants to talk to Quenneville they have to get Bettman's permission?

Hunter worked in a similar scenario I can't see him giving much power away to Conroy.
