I'm just glad the Flames did something for the entertainment purposes of these hilarious over-reactions. I'm sure people could have gotten themselves worked up over nothing, too, but I'm glad they didn't have to strain themselves.

I see it as a risk-free audition for next season. I’m totally fine with that.

Do any of you remember some controversy involving Troy Stetcher? It's not the one involving Trevor Zegras. I think it had to do with his politics or his conduct or something.
Or maybe I'm having a Mandela moment?

It's done. Like done done. Like Elvis left the building, done. The stubbornness of this management to see things for what they are is holding this team back.

No. But if they show well and those things happen through other means (as they have a good chance of doing), then they get re-signed and the team is that much better because the replacements are better than the originals.

What a roller coaster ride those first three pages of this thread are for such a nothing trade.

Zegras said something inappropriate to Stecher that caused Stecher to get very angry.

Some lip readers were claiming Zegras said something about Stecher's dead father but that was denied by everybody.

He was the one piece missing out of the 2020 Canuck UFA blitz CGY didn't acquire. (Marky, Tanev, Toffoli, Stetcher)
I feel like I'm missing someone. Like Leivo or something.

It’s believed Zegras said something over the line about a dead family member of Stetcher’s and he was gonna kill him on the ice. Nothing about Stetchers politics or conduct.

Most normal people can see that.
It would take a true Darryl Sutter truculence solider to think this is the kind of trade that gets up to close that hugely widening gap to squeak into the playoffs. Absolute blinders while enjoying an enema.

Imagine getting this worked up over such an inconsequential trade. You seriously think in a month people are going to ask themselves "####, if only we never traded two tweeners for two slightly better tweeners"
Who gives a ####? Why are people so miserable?

I have always liked Nick Ritchie (and I liked Brett Ritchie too - I thought he has been an extremely strong forechecker for this team). I do worry whether or not his conditioning is up-to-par for what Sutter expects, but I do hope that it is. He has a long history of being very up and down. However, I absolutely do think that Nick has that potential to become a very important piece for a team. He just hasn't as yet learned to play with any consistency.
Brett Ritchie has always been a solid NHL'er with a defined role, so the following example doesn't include him.
When it comes to Nick, I have to wonder where he is between the Stewart brothers - Anthony and Chris. I know most people here just remember Chris for being underwhelming, and to be fair, that was at the end of his career. However, he was a legitimately good powerforward in the NHL for many years.
Nick goes long periods where he seems more like Anthony Stewart than Chris Stewart, but he does have good periods of time where he seems a lot more like Chris. Right now he is stuck right in the middle of those two. If Sutter can motivate him like Brett Ritchie every night, Nick will become an important piece for the Flames.
The one caveat in this is that I am not sure that his conditioning is up to Sutter's snuff. That was the big thing with Sutter (and Hartley) in having players being able to play their respective systems. I have no idea if Nick Ritchie is fit enough or not. Guess we will see, but I am actually happy to see Nick on the team, as I do think that a big powerforward with good hands can make a huge difference, especially in the playoffs. Nick just has to be fit and properly motivated, but he certainly can be an important piece.

But I do remember reading something on Twitter around 2021 on Stetcher that made me say "I hope the Flames don't trade for him."
Anyway, I hope he does wonders here.

I think you are thinking of Adam Gaudette. I had the same moment as well for a few minutes there.

I'm interested in him as a Looch replacement
Younger & more upside. Can still actually power forward from time to time. Sign me up
Ritchie - Zary - Duehr next season is a 4th line I wouldn't be disappointed to see rolled

As someone who watches a lot of AZ:
Stecher rocks and I hope the Flames re-sign him. Warrior. So easy to root for. Flames fans will love him.
Ritchie will flat-out disappear for 20 games in a row and then score in three straight. But he'll even be invisible in the games where he scores. I don't think he'll be re-signed but willing to be proven wrong.
