I don't think they should break up 88-11-20 for the rest of the year. Just leave that one alone.

At this point, I don’t think any line should be considered a lock. Mang is on pace for what? Half his total from last year? He plays well with Dube. See what happens.

They are literally one of the best lines in the league. I wouldn't break that up just to try to get others going. Tinker with the rest, leave Backlund's line alone.

Do you find that to be simply coincidental?
The coach has a lot to do with the on ice game, you know

Won’t matter in playoffs though. I bet we win half those games that went to OT this year if it was a playoff game.

You need to get to the playoffs
You need the OT wins to do so
If you’re not smart enough to deploy the right game plan 5 on 3…

If that's what you want to hang your hat on, great. It was also his man that he let loose and had to make that play to recover. I'm just saying, these are the types of environments and playoff type atmospheres we should expect our best players to rise to the occasion. I don't expect him to carry the team obviously because he can't, but some level of dictating play when your on the ice is required from your #1c.

"Doesn't cut it"? So they're supposed to win every game going forward? I think 1 point against a good, high scoring, physical team is okay

Another frustrating loss. At some point Markstrom has to make some saves and not just stop pucks. Whenever there is an odd man rush or a good scoring opportunity it is like 80% the puck is getting past Markstrom. Never been less confident with a goaltender in net for the Flames. Thought the team showed some resilience coming back in the third but then it was more of the same in OT. Need to start winning games in regulation or this is all for naught.

Dube senselessly running into a fight he couldn't win didn't help things. The flames have multiple roster spots occupied by guys with size and toughness. Not sure why 185lbs Dube is taking that fight.
There were several Trouba incidents. Tanev, for some reason, also fights him.
Trouba doesn't stand a chance against a real fighter. Yet, nobody quiets him down. I'm not just talking about Lucic either. If Sutter is going to prioritize size in the lineup, there are a lot of guys that should be stepping in before tanev and Dube have to.

We may not make the playoffs but will win the title of getting the most OT points in the league, albeit the loser points. That’s an achievement.

I’m sick and tired of dump the puck in and chase it hockey. I don’t recall the Rangers doing much of that if at all. And as for Huberdeau, maybe he’s having a tough time because it’s not him, it’s the teammates, the system and the coaching! Some might say I’m not a true fan because I complain about the team but I expect a lot more. Management has not got a freaking clue. They keep trying to put lipstick on a pig. It’s still a pig! They draft some generational players and where are they? Not here because they didn’t have the foresight to lock them in early! Treliving was too busy searching for nuggets in the garbage and wasting money on used up trash. There are some good players on this team but that’s all they are and that’s not their fault. Being a true fan doesn’t mean we have to bury our heads in the sand and pretend this team is better than it is.

To me that game just shows how useless Lucic is. Nobody is afraid of him, and he did absolutely zero to dissuade any rough stuff against his teammates. He had a whopping 2 hits all night.
He was absolutely caved in when on the ice (18% xgf) and yet Sutter force feed him key minutes.
Trelieving needs to protect Sutter from himself and get Lucic off the roster.

I think it went wrong when he let that first goal in. Second shot of the game, and completely saveable. It would have been a good save, but by no means great or spectacular. Once again with him in net the Flames are chasing early which is not a great place to be with how Sutter wants the team to play (i.e roll 4 lines).

You see guys like Mangiapane, Kadri, Lindholm, Backlund, and Dube, all at least trying to drive the play and put pressure in the o-zone. Huberdeau, for whatever reason, doesn't look like he is trying or knows what he is doing. Almost no individual effort from him. He just kind of loiters around and tries to jump in, but he isn't the guy ever trying to make things happen.
It's completely baffling that he doesn't look at all like the player he was in Florida. Maybe it's a confidence thing, or maybe he can't handle the pressure of being in a hockey focused market with a big contract. It's 50 games in now and I don't expect things to change at this point.
|
He probably misses the climate and his car. I couldn't blame him for that.

Sooner or later it won’t be though. Flames have been kicking the can down the road for too long.

They have to stop playing with the mentality ...maybe we can win?
The one thing that was good was these guys seeing they have to stand up for each other. Even if the NHL pre-determined how the game will be officiated in MSG wow.... what a cluster.
Burn the tape ....move on get points and get Vladar back in there STAT.
