Pathetic

I mean do you want Kane to get a yellow immediately, then get another one vs US?

Having to air condition the playing surface is hilarious.

I find all the protests including the armbands to be hollow and empty. Especially when Becks has no problem promoting the tournament.

That hit by Saka was beautiful

England settled in and took over

Also…I get why the domestic leagues hate World Cup in November / December but I kind of like it being now. Always less guilty to watch TV when it’s cold outside.

Since this game is over, I’ll come back to this. The idea that wearing an armband for inclusion and love would get a yellow card because the host country is full of hateful oppressors is just wrong. And FIFA acknowledging that and going on with it is even more disgusting.

The FA just finished their rainbow laces campaign and it was well received. Now when it could actually make a legitimate statement, they buckle completely. That’s the point of these campaigns and that’s what being an ally is about! This is sportswashing in action.

This is also where other countries needed to step up. It’s one thing to give a yellow to two countries, but would FIFA keep it up if all countries backed this?

This is Fifas tournament so we play by their rules. Even if the rules are dumb.

So I say again, you want Kane booked and potentially suspended from US and Wales? I’m not even an England fan and I don’t.

Maybe if he’s an ally he could say something like I won’t boycott the tournament as representing the three lions is the highest honor for a player, but in solidarity and support of diversity I will be donating 100% of my WC earnings to nonprofit group X, and I encourage all players and FAs who believe in this cause to do the same.

That would speak volumes more compared to a taking a knee for a millisecond before the match or an inclusion armband.

I'd be worried about injuries if I'm England now. Iran sure like to finish their tackles.

Because if this happened in every game FIFA would relent. You actually think they’re going to suspend every captain and the every captain who takes their place? That’s the point of these protests…you call their bluff and make a statement.

Instead, it’s allowing the sports washing to work. It either shows that their campaign last month was BS and they didn’t actually care about the LGBTQ community, because when push came to shove they caved immediately. Or they got bribed (in this case by the severe sanction of a yellow card, lol) and couldn’t take the heat.

I’d also question whether the ref issues the yellow? Are they as weak as FIFA? We’ve gone from “I feel gay” to “don’t say anything supporting the LGBTQ” in 48 hours.

FIFA would never relent, players and refs would just get suspended.

I see your point. But that is a massive high stakes gamble, and ultimately for what?

Really nice moment from Grealish. He'd promised a young fan a goal celebration next time he scored.

If for no other reason, Southgate should be starting Grealish for that glorious mane he has (and obviously an outstanding lad).
