The best run teams in baseball consistently avoid these awful contracts we are seeing handed out.

Look at the players Houston let walk
Look at the players the Dodgers let walk
The Cards and Braves don't dole out these awful contracts either

The Padres and Mets better hope they win a World series title in the next few years, because after that they will be in a world of hurt with the contracts they will be dragging around with them for older, washed up players.

Yeah Rodon is likely looking for a 7/160 deal himself. I’m sure we’ll get someone just not sure who. And likely have to overpay since the Jays usually have to.

And on the Mets they’re all in for sure. They’re up to 328 million. But it’s the Mets of course so they’ll find a way to screw it up.
That’s about 100 million over the CBT. That’s insane.

Whatever happens this off season i just want the Jays to land Kodai Senga, so it probably won't happen.

But these affect the team in later years when certain players need to be signed, but can't because of payroll constraints. Brantley seems like he could be acquired at a low cost and term, and that is very intriguing to me. Rondon seems to be the only marquee pitcher left, and I have no confidence they'll pay his price (whatever that may be). Seems more and more likely their moves will be done through trades exclusively.
Astros want to retain Brantley but problem is that he is still hurt. Not expected to be medically cleared until March and this is a repeat injury for him.

Can’t really count on him as an every day guy right now.

Didn’t realize that. Shame because he’s a fantastic player imo.

I agree the Jays don't have the means to hand out an Judge type of a contract.

However they will need to hand out a contract similar to George Springer deal

They have to spend if they want to fill their needs this offseason (starting pitcher and outfielder)

If these are filled with project type of players, Jays will struggle

Yeah I agree and I bet he would sign for $8 to $10M on a year deal. But really he has to show he is able to play so I don’t know if anyone signs him for a while.

I like him a lot but don’t know if you can expect much OF play from him anymore.

Sounds like the Yanks are trying to get something done with Correa

At least when the Mets go on an absurd spending spree they are in a different league

Watch the Yankees land Correa and Rodon

Can't be outdone by the Mets right?

Their fans have been upset that Steinbrenner hasn’t spent like his daddy did. Will be curious if they do go all in.

Senga is down to 3 teams:

Padres
Mets
Cubs

I wish the Padres and Mets would just #### off already

At least with the Padres and Mets you know it will blow up in their faces sooner than later.

Kiermaier serves no purpose on the team and it was my worst fear to get someone for the sake of getting someone. Hope the contract isn't high. He's just a depth player. Guessing he becomes the CF just for defence. He's not moving any needle on offence. FML.

Hoping he's the 4th outfielder. Tapia, Zimmer replacement. Only 32 but not much gas left in that tank.
