Problem is, if you air it you're probably hurting your chances of getting a PGA event anytime soon.

Is it really the case? If this catches on in Europe and the Asian TV markets maybe it can get some traction.
Right now this reminds me of the WHA days when they were competing with the NHL. It's fun to see it play out.
Dechambeau is one of my favorites to watch, I guess it will be a little harder to do that now.

Which only gives someone like FOX even more leverage, they are basically the only major network who doesn't have to worry about losing PGA coverage. I think if we do see TV for this it won't be until a few events in, where we can how disastrously (or not) this goes. If it's a trainwreck no one will touch it, if it's generating meaningful interest someone will jump on board.

Bigger question is what their sponsors end up doing. These guys are experiencing a pop in attention right now, but these events aren’t going to attract much interest.
Their sponsors are going to lose interest and I’m sure they realize that. I guess they’ve done the math on the money part.

US is where the money is. Is golf that popular in Europe outside of the UK? And the big stars McIllroy and Rahm aren't going.
And Asia outside of Japan and Korea? No PGA Tour Asian players left. You've got markets like China and India but golf isn't big in those two countries. And in general, tv contracts outside the US aren't that big. Advertising dollars don't go as far.

That's a good point. And the event in Bedminster at Trump's club is toxic for a lot of networks to touch but for FOX it wouldn't be.

I don't know if Fox would touch it because local affiliates have a lot of say for Fox (remembering when Conan was potentially going there before TBS) and what gets shown. Many of them would rather show re-runs of old sitcoms for the guaranteed ratings on a saturday afternoon.
It might be an OAN or other non-sports channel that gets it for cable, or more likely a streaming service.

Rumor is Augusta will ban LIV members as well. I’m quite surprised but honestly Augusta has been more progressive than I would have thought in the recent years.
And to have a ban of past champs will be interesting. I bet they make exemptions for that at least.

The PGA Tour could learn a lot from this LIV Golf broadcast.
It's miles better than any of the PGA Tour network partners.
Imagine actually showing live shots than highlights of Tiger from 15 years ago.

I personally don't feel I've missed a lot of important live shots while watching PGA tour. They're usually all around the appropriate action for the most part, with highlights from earlier in the round/tournament when the action calls for it.

It seems the exact same to me as any online golf stream I have watched- which never really has the pomp & circumstance, video essays, or archive footage that the weekend tv broadcasts have.
I think the shotgun start, although unconventional, is pretty cool. Condenses the broadcast time and you can watch every round live, and every golfer plays in the same weather. Obviously growth of the league and more players will not allow for it indefinitely.

Yeah I agree. Weekend network coverage usually gets most live shots from everyone in contention. Weekday coverage is usually focused on feature groups plus anyone playing well. ESPN+ shows non stop live golf shots on 5-6 feeds through out the tournament. I can’t remember a pga tour event spending any time on Tiger highlights lately. Maybe the masters did that a bit but that’s not the pga tour.

Do you not remember the US Open at Torrey?
They hardly showed Hughes at all.

Is anyone aware of a major sports website including the LIV scores in their golf section? I haven't been able to find one. Pretty good indication of how things are going to go.

It's a joke. Very few people really care about just watching these guys hit a ball around a course. it's competing for tournaments that fans care about.

You can't legally watch ESPN+ in Canada, so this is irrelevant.

I don't think this got mentioned here. Graham Delaet retired this week. He seems at peace with the decision, so that's good. But it must be tough to think about what could have been. https://www.tsn.ca/graham-delaet-ann...tour-1.1809667
