He really isn't playing well it's just the standards have been lowered. He's playing ok as a 4th liner, nothing to write home about.

Yup. I admit I didn't follow the player at all before the trade but based only on CP's views when he was acquired, I really thought he was terrible at everything which is opposite of what he's shown so far.

For sure. But unless you sign one (very expensive), trade for one (very expensive) or develop one they're tough to get. You're right, looks like this season the Flames defense will have to get the job done by committee.
