Completely the opposite as I personally like the extra daylight at the beginning of the day. I think about the same thing in June if we stayed on standard time, it would be better.

I don't really care what time we're on now... there's not enough daylight for me, no matter when it comes.

I certainly don't want it any earlier than it already is in the summer though and I don't want to give up our long evenings. Continuing to change is my preferred option, but there's no way I'd ever want standard time year round.

This.

No matter what time system we use in winter, it’s going to suck anyway.

Might as well have time that is best in Summer, and the long evenings are fantastic in June.

Note that we are basically already at our earliest sunset, but our sunrise still gets about 15 minutes later than it is today.

The whole point of not doing DST for most people was the inconvenience of switching clocks back and forth, was it not? The whole "get an hour more in the winter evenings" was a compromise on sticking to one time over the other.

So I'd say ideally for most people, this current time for winter is still the best window of time. I certainly would not like it being dark until after 9am in the winter. Winter mornings are depressing as is.

Curious what it is people hate about the dark so much? Maybe I'm just used to it because I work nights half the year, and spent part of my life living way farther north, but even some of my favourite childhood memories are playing outside after dark. Skating on an outdoor rink with the lights on for example.

Is it the seasonal depression thing that some people get? Are people scared of the dark? Just because it gets colder when the sun goes down? Genuinely curious why light hours has become such a core of this debate as it's never mattered to me at all

I for one would prefer to drive with some sunlight out over pitch black. Probably better for kids walking to and from school as well. Less pedestrian incidents.

I'd rather drive in complete darkness in the winter since the sun hangs so low and blinds you half the time

For people like myself that work outside, it is a safety issue. Much safer to work during daylight hours.

Fair question.

For me it's an energy thing. When it's daylight I gave more energy, feel happier, and willing to get stuff accomplished.

When the sun goes down it's a subconscious signal it's time for bed and I mentally start gearing down.

I don't want to leave the house and run errands after dark.

I also prefer warmer temperatures and night is colder than day. So a -2 day can become a -13 night. I'd prefer that temperature drop not to happen at supper.

What’s funny is the “normal” part of the world it get dark at 6 or 7pm. I think it’s that nice weather and more light in the summer and cold dark winters have conditioned us to think that light is win it’s nice out. In a warmer part of the world with more consistent sunset I don’t think you’d make this association.

Hawaii for example.

So glad we kept it as is. The extra hour to get from 4:30 sunset to 5:30 sunset right now is useless. The extra hour of light gained by 8:30 sunrise instead of 9:30 sunrise has far far greater benefit.

Keep it as is. Super long sweet summer evenings, and an extra pleasant hour of morning sunlight in the winter.

I am in favor of keeping the time change so obviously am happy with things the way they are. The whole daylight thing is a bit of a non starter for me. It's dark when I go to work and it's dark when I come home so it really doesn't matter.

Where's the normal part? Southern US like Miami or San Diego have sunsets 5:30 and 4:45. Here in VA, we can play golf until about 5:10 right now, and it would be much easier to get in 9 holes after work if we stayed on Daylight Savings time.

Yeah, I went to Barbados a few years ago and it was really weird that it was totally dark by about 5:30pm in September.

It is just how we’ve been conditioned. Houston is dark by 6 as well. When I explained to some people there that we have light until 10:00pm in summer, they’re floored.

September 22nd is the autumn equinox. If you have solar noon at noon, the sun sets at 6 PM... no matter where you are.

Yeah there are some apples and oranges here. Sunset in very southern US is about 8:30 in July when it is close to 10:00 PM in Calgary. There is never a 4 hour difference.

I love each time change equally, for different reasons. In a few minutes we spring forward, it will be awesome getting another hour of light in the evening.
