We also don’t know if the Flames will be buyers or sellers. Absolutely pointless to look at next years trade deadline as any kind of benchmark in regards to Gio.

Maybe most valuable in the league two years ago. Last year Gio was a shadow of his Norris trophy winning season.

Middle six includes 2nd and 3rd line. Again talking about ice time, Lanny, Peplinski were not in that category at the end of their careers. That is all.
|
Talking about ice time, Peplinski actually played on the third line in the last full year of his career. That is the fact. That is all.

Missing my point. Out of the non-protected players Seattle can take across the league, he is in the top tier of those.

Gee, and I was told that nobody is blaming him for the expansion draft. Go figure.

It's only great if that cap space isn't wasted on the next Neal or Brouwer. Hopefully Treliving has learned.

I'm not sure how that's classic Flames. There has been one expansion draft in this format previous, and we lost a just-OK UFA we likely weren't signing.
We'd lose a good player regardless of who we protected. And if our team has sucked recently, maybe they're not that good.

Well, he obviously hasn't learned anything, because last season he went out and wasted his cap space on Markstrom and Tanev. Right?

Habs might lose Carey frickin Price and here some posters are going on and on about losing a 38 year old Giordano....who might have 1 more year left to play in the league, maybe 2...for which he can come back to Calgary if he wanted to. Seriously...not a big deal.
We are in a much better position.

How high a level was Foligno playing at this years TDL? His PPG were lower than his historic numbers. They signed him for experience and grit, but that probably doesn't change with Gio either.

I wonder if Martinez is an option for replacing Gio. Played for Darryl in LA.

If that all it takes to keep the team's best overall defenseman, I'd be all for that.

Classic flames as in our crappy luck/can’t catch a break kind of way. Not as in they could have done something different.

He’s one of those players who seems like he has an extra gear when he has the puck on his stick. Sutter seems to be challenging him to consistently play at a high gear when the other team has the puck. Which is something most NHLers who were stars in junior need to learn.

I've liked him since he was drafted. I think he's got second line potential easily. which is, of course middle six. and also top six.

If the Flames had protect 4 defenseman and exposed Monahan, Backlund and Dube; who would Seattle have taken?
Are any of those 3 worth a first round draft pick at the trade deadline? Yes, I'm assuming the Flames will be sellers, lowered expectations.

Last time plenty of people were pissed and complained that the Flames were so pathetic that we didn't have anyone good to expose so VGK ended up taking Engelland, a pending UFA who they could have had for free.
Now we leave Gio exposed, who is clearly the correct choice, and there's anger that we already suck and are losing a good player. Shouldn't we be happy that we have good depth now if it means leaving Gio exposed? Or did he only suck when Tre was going to trade a draft pick to get Seattle to take someone else?
BTW, I am so tired of the speculation. Come on already, let's get Kraken.

That makes sense, though I think between our luck last time and this time, it balances out.
Gaining the cap space and changing up the leadership are positives, at least.
