Too late to make the playoffs, and too late to bottom out.
Yay.

What can you say about the Flames at this point? What is there to hope for?

Weren’t ready to start the game. I’m always told that’s a coaching issue. But I don’t believe it. Not with Sutter.

Trying to make the playoff is more important.
Seriously guys, accept they won't be tanking no matter what and instead hope that the most problematic players are shipped out and replaced by players who fit in and can make the team better.

For me, this has been the most disappointing season of Flames hockey...

This won't bring in elite talent.
The main problem is a lack of elite talent.
Tanking and rebuilding are really the only reasonable options in terms of escaping prolonged mediocrity.

At least the Oil will have the opportunity to get crushed in the post season, unlike the Flames. Sad state of affairs.

I disagree. When the proof has been slapping you in the face for two years and you still go...."but playoffs" and fall short and still hurt yourself by not getting the best available chance to pick a good player, you're not going to find replacements for the problematic people you want to ship out.
Like Tree always always says, there's lots of gms wanting to just fork over their best players and make your team better instead of theirs.
The Flames are literally no man's land. Thats it, that's all there is.
I for one love futile pushes for a playoff spot you've been chasing all year only to come up predictably short .
But hey, they tried.

It doesn't have to be elite. Just talent that makes the team better. They aren't as horrible as the team tankers want to make them out to be. They're having a bad season. Any other season they make the playoffs.
Tanking guarantees nothing. Again, accept they won't be tanking. Sutter didn't sign up for a tank and he's not getting fired to start one. Constantly crying about how they need to tank is just wasted energy.

They need to change the core. They don't need to tank. Tanking guarantees nothing.
Again, be realistic and accept they won't be tanking.

Okay, and what do you replace the core with? You think other teams are just gonna gift us new core players?
How's the FA crop?
Where the hell do you think you the really good players? That's right, by having the pick of the litter in the draft. I.e a higher pick.
Replacing the core now is just shuffling deck chairs on the titanic and you're the guy screaming "but this ship is unsinkable!"

I thought the push at the start was good, but oilers pushed a little harder. Not quite as bad as some no shows to start games.

That's not my job to figure out.
You also have no clue what other GMs think of players on the team. They're more level headed than fans and not emotional so they see things that we don't really appreciate and would love to have on their team.
Yes, it's shuffling the deck but certain players perform differently with different teams and coaches.
Again, tanking guarantees nothing and this team IS NOT tanking no matter how much you want them to. If things don't go well the next couple of seasons maybe they'll decide to when Sutter's contract ends but right now it's not happening.

If not tanking, what do you think is the antidote to almost 30 years of mediocrity?
Good trades? Drafting? They've been trying to do that since I was born.
I am "crying" because at some point, something has got to give.
The Flames have one of the least exciting rosters and prospect pools in the league. Making the playoffs on and off doesn't change that.
