I’d give a 3rd for Bennett.

Frolik was 30 and his game was clearly declining. Bennett is 24, someone will take a flyer on him hoping that he develop his game. The Flames won’t get much in return though, maybe it’s better just to have the cap space.

Bennett treats the puck like a time bomb. Plays die on his stick, we see it happen time and again. That's all the "data" I need.

Now that the ship has sailed with Lindholm seemingly so effective as a center, can Bennett really be worse than Leivo or Simon on Gaudreau/Monahan line?
Every time I have been watching, Gaudreau and Monahan seemed to be doing it all by themselves because Leivo and Simon cannot keep up.
Just forget about this LH RH for a change, there is no magical top 6 RHS RW readily available at this very moment.
Give him regular shifts on that line for like 10 straight games on so and regular shifts on PP2.
If it works, great, we are not as desperate for a top 6 RW.
If it doesn't, at least that should pad up his stats a bit to salvage some trade values.

Personally I don't blame Bennett for asking to move to new pastures, in fact I applaud him for it. Once again we have seen the team singing his praises, telling anyone who would listen that he will be getting a go at Centre because he played so much better there. Not only do they not put him at centre, or even give him a try at C, but he watches as Simon and Leivo swan into the dressing room and instantly get full games with JG and SM! Sam is once again shoved down to the bottom two lines without even a hint of opportunity.
Please don't drag out the "he hasn't earned the right to play on the top lines" narrative, are you telling me that Simon or Leivo have!! If ever there was aline that needed some snarl and crash some bodies to create space it was that line, I don't see SM doing any of that. I really think it was seeing this that was the final straw for Bennett.
I get that alot of people are disappointed that our highest draft pick didn't turn into Point or Bergeron or whatever top line C you want to use as comparison. There will always be arguements that he did or didn't get a fair crack at the top lines, personally I don't think he did.
Whichever way you cut it you cannot deny that seeing how this season started after everything the team were telling Bennett, that you are surprised that he is fed up with the whole situation.

Best of luck to Sam and I’m sure he will actually flourish on a new team where he’s given top 6 opportunities.
And before everyone gleefully waves him out of town, be careful what you wish for because this team is already charmin soft, and I can’t wait for the takes about how “flames don’t go to the dirty areas”
Either way I’m gonna have to find a new avatar.

The point I’m trying to make is that Tkachuk helps elevate whoever is on his line regardless of who whereas the talk from Sam Bennett supporters are always centered around who can elevate him or just straight trashing linemates who can’t. He’s in his 6th season in the NHL, at some point the former 1st overall ranked prospect has to responsible for his own success at this level. The excuses around here are virtually endless.
This organization has given him ample time and opportunities to succeed and he hasn’t grasped a hold of any of his chances. Im fact, over the years, he’s allowed others to pass by him. Mangiapane for instance, kid started from the very bottom. Drafted late, played in the minors, 4th line minutes, low expectations, but through his work and pure determination, he’s managed to usurp Sam Bennett’s position fair and square.
Sam Bennett may find some success on some bottom feeder team, but that’s hardly the type of team we’ve been trying to build here. But I have severe doubts as I believe his style of play just isn’t conducive to regular season success. His desire to dipsy doodle around defenders leads to turnovers and his dog on a bone style lends itself to ticky tack penalties. It’s really a vicious cycle and until he realizes that’s not his game, he’ll likely go through slotting issues his entire career.
For the record though, I want to keep Sam Bennett. I may dislike the endless, tiresome, back and forth debates around here. However, his playoff transformation at his current price tag helps the team more than the draft pick or project we may end up getting back for him.

This is true, Sam just does not fit in here. Brad is building a team that tries to win in the regular season, not in the playoffs. Look at Tkachuk, great regular season guy but does not really show up in the playoffs. Sure Sam has the same amount of points in the last two years as Lindholm and Tkachuk combined, that is not really relevant for a team built for first round exits. What we need is a better regular season performer who will fit in with the rest of the lineup.

Can't be surprised he'd like a change. Do not agree that when a player indicates he like a change that it's always going to be a valueless return at all. We just saw two talented malcontents traded for each other. Teams have inquired about the guy since he got here to boot. Some GM and Coach somewhere will believe they can make him into something.
As far the team goes that's all that's important to me. Following hockey since the 67' Leafs won if you can believe that. After all these years I have long since stopped "falling in love with players".
Team first and every center in the top 9 in front of him in the line up has multiple 20 goals seasons on their resumes. Monahan started in a 3rd line protected role and still delivered 20 his first year. Perhaps Bennett will thrive elsewhere and at least he's not a complete bust like Yakupov or Puljujarvi.

You obviously do because you're posting a spirited case for Bennett in every second or third post. But like Trump's lawyers, there just isn't much to that defense and it is easy to see through. I hope the Flames find a suitor for Bennett and do so fast. He's the type of player that becomes a distraction and can derail a season. I would future consideration him just to get him out of the mix and get on with the business of trying to win hockey games. With that salary hit he isn't worth more than that in this cap strapped NHL.

So naturally he’d be a target. We did create one of of the top-10 worst contract in the league and then traded it for one of the other worst contracts in the league. Gotta collect ‘Em all.

I would like this type of hockey trade. Another name that comes to mind is Lawson Crouse

Do the rangers need a 3rd line center? I wouldn’t mind Buchnevich for Bennett and a small +.

You could make that case until Dube came back. Now the question is - can Bennett really be worse than Dube or Mangiapane. The answer is “yes”.

Don't see the Rangers doing that. I think the Flames keep him unless they get a decent return. Might as well keep him for another playoff run.

Give him quality line mates for more than a handful of games. If he produces, it just increases his trade value. Him and Gaudreau have always been dangerous together, but for whatever reason we can't even pair them for an entire game.
He went from top offensive producer in the playoffs to buried again. He probably thought he'd get more leash this season.
