A little buyout-proof in the last couple of seasons, but not as bad as Lucic's.

had to update the numbers.
low salary years at the front to limit loses to COVID escrow
low salary years at the back and signing bonuses at the back to prevent money lost to a potential buyout

Joey MacDonald, Karri Ramo, Reto Berra, Joni Ortio, Jonas Hiller, Brian Elliott, Chad Johnson, Jon Gillies, Mike Smith, Nicklas Backstrom, Cam Talbot, Eddie Lack and David Rittich...its finally over...
Crazy...the level of mediocrity we have had at this position for this duration is unreal...if you go back to Kippers backups it gets even worse...

If we think a player is going to be bought out, we probably shouldn’t sign him.
Markstrom plays this deal out, either here or for someone else.

Edmonton is not good either. It stinks. Everyone in Sweden knows that. It was a great occasion.

I was wondering about if it was trying to have low cost from a ownership mandate, but this explanation makes more sense.

As much as I also have joined in the nitpicking of when this deal will be bad, I honestly will save myself the headache about griping about the if and the when and just enjoy the fact that we have a great starting goalie for at least the next couple seasons.

Considering how long we've been in a "2A/2B as starters" situation, this is welcome news. Haven't had a bonafide top10 goalie since Kipper.

Y’know, it just occurred to me.
Calgary is paying $36M over 6 years for Jacob Markstrom.
Montreal is paying $38M over 7 for Josh Anderson.

May not be an easy buyout, but it a pretty easy cap dump trade
Not to worried about it though

Maybe the AAV is too high, or the term too long, or the NMC will be regretted but it does feel really good to have a legit starting goalie. If you're going to pay a high price, at least address a pressing need which this absolutely does.
And kudos to Markstrom and his agent, I'd say he get all he could have hoped for.

I truly hope this will be the last major goalie signing the Flames will need to make before Dustin Wolf comes in and dominates...

During the delay:
“Treliving is too cheap on details and will lose the deal because of it”.
After the deal:
“I don’t like the bonus set up”.

I'm still hoping Tyler Parsons turns it around. Was really, really, really high on him a few years ago.
