The jan 1 to the end of season was from the article not mine. 2.65 seems pretty middle of the road to be 6th best...
After the All Star game the 2.10 seems scary ... That compares to the Flames 3.35 over the last 20 games going 10-8-2
No amount of fancy stats can paper over a 3.35 Goals against. That is the whole team playing weak defense. (Gio and Hamonic missing.. a bit over half the games. Hamonic might not be as easy to replace as some folks think)
A 2.10 with a 12-6-2 and those Crappy fancy stats...IF they held for the last 20 games would suggest that Hellebuyck would be the best player in the league as the season ended.
The Flames goalies saw slightly more shots over the last 20 games than the Jets goalies 653 to 634
Goals against average is the result. The underlying stats is how a team is playing.
So yeah it matters.
If the Jets are consistently getting out played they need to score at a rate that his above average and get bailed out by their goaltender to a degree that is above average.
Kiprusoff certainly did that in Calgary for a long spell, it can happen. But you won't see me shaking in my boots about how well the Jets are playing when every measure of game play suggests they're getting owned.

I just watched this video of the Flames top-ten plays of the season.
There is lots of David Rittich spectacular saves in here; I had forgotten just how good he was in the first half, and if he shows up healthy and ready to play like this, then I don't think the Jets have any advantage in this series whatsoever.

That play by Backlund against Nashville (#5 in the video). Holy crap!

Yesterday I watched the highlights from the Flames last ten games, and that Nashville game was as frustrating as it was fantastic. Backlund was sensational, and gave Calgary a 3–2 lead with 40 seconds left. A bad break in the final second, and Nashville tied it and won in OT.
The other one that really made me mad was the VGK game. The Flames had a clear goal recalled in the first, and still fought back from a 3–0 deficit to tie the game with 3:00 left. Another bizarre bad break in the final 70 seconds gave the Knights the GWG. Ugh.

Ugh those two were tough. Really summed up how our luck and season went.

With thousands upon thousands of hours of digital footage of crowd and game atmosphere from every camera perspective in every NHL arena (and also from Edmonton and Winnipeg) could the broadcasters overlay an entire crowd on the empty seats in the building? They could match crowd visuals and crowd sounds to every home-team's own building.

I think the most likely scenario, unfortunately, is that they just cover the seats with advertisements.

I must have missed the fact that edmonton and toronto get to play at home.
With no fans in the buildings, it doesn't really matter. Also by the time the tournament starts, every team will be more than familiar with the rink, the ice, etc... There's really no advantage for any team, except maybe the Coyotes and the Florida teams since they're used to playing in empty arenas.

Good points and I agree. But even if it made the oilers just a bit more uncomfortable to be in Toronto that would be a-okay in my books!
