Campbell endures more criticism for essentially doing nothing different from her peers.
My issue with Campbell is a simple, but important one....she is just not entertaining. A color commentator's job is to add some combination of new insight, intrigue, drama, controversy or entertainment value to the game...and to me she provides very little of that. She has a wooden personality and very little natural charisma with anyone she is paired with. The only color she provides is beige.
She is absolutely the female Charlie Simmer. More often than not, she is technically correct, but might as well be narrating a book on Risk Management.

Phil Esposito has to be one of the all time greats. THe game has passed him by and listening to the Lightning broadcast is high comedy. He just cheerleads, shouts an occasional oh no! and gets mad at the players.
I don't like laughing at Espo because he is one of all time favorite players. But hard not to.
Listening to Phil Esposito is like if someone taped your drunk grandfather watching a hockey game in his living room. I can't believe he's lasted this long doing it.
and I feel like you're trying to be a white knight here by calling people who have justified complaints about her misogynists.
Erik Francis gets hate way worse than she does. There's other male sports presenters/writers that get hate on here pretty bad here too.
Strange how we can criticize them with impunity and nobody claims we're discriminating against them, but if you criticize Cassie for being monotone and sometimes pretty bad at her job, which she absolutely is, and it's misogyny.
Cassie has the personality of a tree stump, and I'm not about to give her a pass because she's a woman. I'll criticize her with impunity like I would a man, which is actually equality not misogyny.

Cassie is that nerd / geek in your class, she is very technical, knows everything in the books and 95% of the time she is correct. She just does not present those information in a interesting way, but imo, I don't find her irritating like some of you here.

Someone else explained it well, you take what is said about a male peer that is just as good as Cassie at their job and the complaining about her is significantly higher. Citing because pieces of crap like Francis are raked over the coals is not proof there is no misogyny.

I'll give you Francis but not any other media type aside from Oilers toadies. And Francis never gets attacked for how he says things (eg "monotone"). He gets attacked for what he says.
I have nothing against Cassie personally as she seems very nice and I've heard from people who have met her confirming the same. But count me in as a person who sighs and is disappointed when I flick on the game and I hear her and not Hrudey. I find her voice to be annoying and difficult to listen to. And I guess before anyone calls me a misogynist for that I'll add that I also find Wills and Loubardias to have annoying voices that I also hate listening to.

Francis should really get attacked for his atrocious suits.

Its weird I cant say that I have been annoyed by Cassie, Loubardias, Kerr, Simmer or PJ Stock, Stromboulopolos or whoever i'm missing that has been disliked semi recently. The only sports media personalities that have been on TV that have really annoyed me are Principe and Garrett.

Well that and his smug look, his fake laugh and smile and his terrible suits. I've seen all tho criticisms of Francis here. Mostly by me, but no one bats an eye.
I like Cassie, I find that when I read GT comments about her and then listen to the broadcast, I don't have the same sense of her ability as others.
But the colour person I like the best is Mike Johnson. I understand some don't like his personality but to me he's very analytical - breaking down plays and thought processes from the pov a player (been in coaches meetings during video and the what goes through a guy's mind during the grind of the season).
So he tells me things I find fascinating and he's also quite natural in his delivery. Other people try to make it too simple (for the larger more casual viewer) and I like those inside details. To me he's hands down the best.

Maybe it's just that I'm a laid-back person but I don't get the hate. I can watch a game and just enjoy it for what it is, no matter who the commentators are.
Imagine a bunch of people watching you do your job and then completely bashing you and posting publicly about how terrible you are. I get it, a particular commentator might not be your cup of tea, but I would urge people to show a little respect and class. People like Cassie Campbell and Kelly Hrudey are by all accounts good people. If it's not something you'd say to their face, why say it? First world problems I guess.
Sorry, I will end this rant now. Good game last night, go Flames.
