They had a golf guy on 960 this morning. When he extended an invitation to Neal for the annual Stamkos 'drink til you drop' five day golf tourney, Neal declined.
The impression was that Neal was embarrassed by last season and was taking his offseason very seriously.

In all 3 scenarios we're giving up the better players and taking on the worst of the contracts.
Their 1st round pick better be included in all 3 for me to even stomach the thought sadly.

The first one at least gets you a reclamation project but makes the cap situation more difficult, since Lucic makes more than Neal and you have to pay JP something. The second is bad because Neal has a better chance of bouncing back (plus makes less).

A straight-swap of Neal and Lucic would make absolutely no sense for the Flames at all. There is no benefit whatsoever.

Lucic isn’t just a poison pill of a cap hit and slower than Adrian Aucoin, he also requires protection in the expansion draft. Hard no to any deal where he’s involved.

What am I missing here? What makes Lucic more desirable than Neal? They are the same age, same height, seem to have similar flaws (slow as molasses), and Lucic gets paid $250k more on the same length contract (EDM can only eat $3M in a trade).
Is it the idea of getting Puljujarvi - who is RFA? CGY eats more money on that deal.
What's the draw?
It is interesting that many see Talbot as being able to have a bounce back year, but not Neal?

I think if Lucic didn't have his NMC then Lucic and Neal would be basically the same value asset.

I know, its just horrible either way. The straight across is based on Friedman's "speculation" not my own.
Also, to everyone pining for a mid season trade or action of any sort be careful what you wish for.

Only thing to Lucic is that his base salary is lower, and more dependent on bonuses as the seasons go on. Neal has straight-across no bonus clauses, just base salary. Calgary may be looking to save some money in the later years, but still take the cap hit (generally the same) and open up more bucks to commit down the line.
Of course, there would have to be incentive to do so. Neal is still the better player at this point, I can't see Treliving doing one for one unless something else comes back to us. Neal may also be the only player available who could be a top-six guy (if he can recover) who will actually play for the Oilers. Lucic certainly isn't that anymore.
