Haven't watched the Flames all week -- travelling. Expected the Flames to be down 3 or 4 when I first came into this GT.

Did that article look ATB the effect on opponent forechecking or just transition to offence?

Here's what they looked at:

1) no difference in hits taken by defencemen
2) Smith has faced more shots/game than other Flames goalies which likely means no less time in our own end
3) there is a small increase in shots for by the Flames when Smith plays and 1 extra chance per game

Ton of grey area in all of that on how much of impact Smith has on all of the above, but doesn't seem like it makes much of a difference.
