Does anyone know if the Flames are doing the fireman helmet again this season for MVP each game?? I thought they did it every year but haven't seen it make an appearance yet!!

It’s a top hat this year and they gave it to Peluso.

I like having a coach that isn't afraid to make changes to the roster, distribute icetime as he sees fit, or play rookies.
When looking at the icetime it makes me wonder what the future holds for Frolik..
He had the least amount of icetime out of any player not named Peluso and with Backlund, Lindholm, Bennett, Dube, Czarnik, Ryan and Jankowski around he may not be as integral to the PK as he has been in the past.
I'm not saying he doesn't fit in this season but considering the cap issues we will have to sort out come the offseason it just makes one wonder when you move a guy like Frolik.
Stone is really the only other candidate and as we can already see defensive depth is important in case of injury.
Meanwhile up front we have players like Mangiapane, Foo and Klimchuk et al pushing along with Hathaway and Peluso already in the mix.
I'll always like Frolik but part of the hard part of the business that comes with having a salary cap is decisions need to be made and certain players need to be replaced by younger cheaper options.

I'm a Predators fan, but find it a bit ridiculous that they even bothered raising 3 banners tonight. The President's Trophy banner should be the only one needed. The Regular Season Western Conference and Central Division champions banners were a bit redundant IMO.
Quote:
One banner last year. Three banners this year. Nine banners next year!
Quote:
AHHHHHH
Quote:
Man, I wish we weren't hanging the regular season WC banner.
Quote:
Can't wait for us to put up two banners implied by the third banner we are putting up
Quote:
Okay, boys...gonna be a big night, all sorts of hoopla. That's for us. YOU just need to focus on business at hand and outwork, outplay and outscore the opponents.
Do good work. Go Preds!

Typical Calgary game. Their speed just gives us fits.

Oh come on PK...

Lazy ass

We look pretty confused right now, lots of turnovers and missed passes.

Judging on now this season is going I predict this game will either be 2-1 or 8-7.
Quote:
Well now we're just playing poorly
Quote:
Feels like nothing is going right tonight.

Preds defense is worrying me a little bit.

Hey guys,
Stop playing like piles of loose dog ****.

A fan with diminishing amounts of patience
Quote:
Wow we really sucked this period
Quote:
I hope that was just the patented Predators **** period.
Quote:
That shift by the 4th line was our best shift in the period by far. But I think teams are reading us better and better since all we try to do in the offensive zone is to try to get the puck from the corner to the point and blast it. We're not a fast team, we should be good in corners, wish we'd try that style more often. Now, it's like if our D doesn't get shots through, we get no offense.
Quote:
We are playing like we think we deserve the win and don't have to play for it.
Quote:
Preds are playing like crap. Hope arvys face isnt broken

I'm not really going to care about the result tonight until I know Arvy's ok.

Hope to see Arvy back out in the second.

Soo.. are we waiting for Arvidsson to get back or?

The Wrong Gaudreau

Dang, their Gaudreau seems pretty good.

not the best start but they'll be okay!

Yeah, that's what happened when we can't get out of the p box.

Any word on when Gaudreau's funeral will be and if Weber is invited?

Getting totally out-hustled. Don’t like the effort out there. Plus Smith is standing on his head, feel like we had a lot of good looks but he’s stopping everything.

typical 5 on 3 from us as well

god our 5 on 3 has sucked so bad for 3 seasons
Mostly because we try to use our d-men just like a normal powerplay

Come on guys, its 5 on 3.

that was pathetic. absolutely pathetic. 2 minute 5 on 3? talented forwards? room for quick cross-crease passes? nah, telegraphed point shots. garbage.

Our powerplay … woof.
Quote:
I see our PP strategy has not changed at all...
Quote:
Powerplay making the difference tonight. I think we've played pretty well after the 10 or so minutes but Smith has just been in the zone tonight. Also it doesn't help the Flames are 2/3 on PP while we're 0/3.

what was that?

... isn't afraid to use his rookies in any situation. Presds had a 2 man advantage followed by another PP. He had 2 different rookies defending.
We have an elite takent-to-be sitting on the bench on our PP along with a bullet right hand shot winger.

That was a pretty great game. A couple of thoughts before bed...
· My God, Elias Lindholm is good.
· and so is Noah Hanifin.
· Valimaki and Andersson? Yes please.
· I like it when the Flames forecheck. It's even better when they do it a lot.
· More players than just Gaudreau should be carrying the puck into the offensive zone on the powerplay.
· The Flames are second in the Division, and with a positive goal differential.
Good night.

I’m just going to weigh in, he’s not proven wrong. This debate has gone on in the past on this very website.
A lot of special needs individuals find the word incredibly disrespectful so don’t say it. Pretty simple stuff really.
I volunteer in a number of events for Special O and the very organization you cheer for and discuss on this forum participates in these same events every year to support special Olympics Canada. Part of their participation is to help raise awareness on why ignorant comments like that need to stop.
But its the english language. Words can be used in many different ways. It is the context in which you use it.
"Preservative, in foods, any of numerous chemical additives used to prevent or ###### spoilage caused by chemical changes, e.g., oxidation or the growth of mold. Along with emulsifying and stabilizing agents, preservatives also help to maintain freshness of appearance and consistency. "
Just finished watching the game. Such a breathe of fresh air watching compared to last year.
- When Bennett's goal was disallowed, the Flames came back and scored right away on the PP. They didn't let that decision deflate them.
- Peters trust in rookies is awesome and is completely opposite to the last decade of Flames teams (except for 1st round picks). Valimaki and Andersson looked good on the 3rd pairing (and on the 5-on-3).
- Bennett had a strong game.
- Brodie looks like his normal self on the right side. There weren't any miscues or him getting walked like the last 2 years. How much of this is playing on the right side, or playing with Gio (or both), but I'm glad he's back.
- Mike Smith played exceptionally well, especially in the 2nd period (and the 5-on-3).
- What can you say about the top line. Johnny is dynamite and Moneyhands and Lindholm were great.
Go Flames Go!

Thanks combustiblefuel, I am well aware context matters and the example you’re referring to is certainly not how that word was used previously in this thread. Refer to Jiri’s post on page 13, he hit the nail on the head.

Team is a pleasure to watch when they come to play like yesterday. Absolutely love the speed and the forecheck - it's no coincidence they had 17 PPs in 3 games. Great work Peters, I hope they keep it up!
Valimaki is going to be a stud. Goes from 10 minutes in game 1 to almost 18 and killing a 5-on-3 in game 3 ... just a very smart and mobile defenseman, he'll be very good for a long time.
Elias Lindholm and his muffin of a shot are under contract for 6 years. Don't know about you guys, but that makes me smile.
