5000km?! 10,000km?! Nice job guys.
I'm super stoked to hit 1000km on my cheap singlespeed this summer as I prep for ACL reconstruction surgery next week

i hope you can somehow squeeze out that extra mile.
strava says my year to date is 2,700k. hard to rack up big numbers unless you are getting out on the weekends for centuries. and given i prefer mtn biking more than road riding, a big mtn bike ride (for me) in bragg is 25k.
looks like this season will end without me trying two things on my bike:
- i want to ride around the city using the rotary-mattaway pathway system (i am not 100% sure all of the sections are currently open), but i am sure i read it is or will be something like 130k
- i also regret not making the time to ride any parts of the high rockies trail again this summer
i also hate myself for not riding in this morning - but my kid was on the ice last night until 11 so i did not fall asleep until 1.....

9yo calls me from school to tell me she forgot her library books for library day. Another 16.8km of riding in the bag today! Whoop whoop!

I was going to offer a tow rope behind my truck. Your idea sounds safer but far less fun.

I'm not even at 5000. Disappointing year. A combination of knee pain, motivation, etc. Will keep working to improve.

You obviously don’t know how stats work. That’s your own problem.

worth and I got out for a metric century this morning. Couldn't have asked for much better weather. Lots of quiet roads down south of the city, in the Dewinton area. The ride instead of work was a good idea. 2pm Thursday post-ride beer was also a good idea.
If you're interested in the route: https://www.strava.com/activities/1913106638

I would say out of all the 100km routes I have done, this one was at the top of the list for me KTrain. Some really beautiful roads out there.

Hey Ktrain, any suggestions for rides west of the city? I’m out in Cochrane, and looking for safe and not too much traffic ideally.
I just bought a road bike today.

Nice work on the bike. What’d you get and will you be joining us on the CP ride next year?
Unfortunately I don’t get out riding there too much. When I do it’s out on Springbank Road and off towards Bragg Creek.

Trek Émonda SL6 Disc I got an end of season deal on. Not the one in the pic, but basically looks exactly the same. I was going to wait until the spring, but figured for the price I’d just get it now, and maybe even get out for a ride or 2 in the next week. It’s more bike than I was intending, but I figure it should last me a while.
And I’d love to make it out on the CP ride next year! I’m also hoping to make it on some Fondos and other events around. I recall you mentioning an MEC century you did, are there any others you typically ride in? Commuting for work from the Cochrane to the airport at all hours isn’t really feasible, so it’s only going to be recreational rides when I can find the time.

I used to live out there, the best road ride would be Horse Creek Road. You could do an out and back, or do a loop with Griffen Valley Road. The loop is about 42km from hwy 1A.
https://www.mapmyride.com/ca/cochran...route-41438494
Or head on the 1A towards Calgary, and take the first left at the top of Cochrane Hill. You could then ride those side roads through Bearspaw.
Those would be two that have a little less traffic for the majority of the ride.
Other than that, you could ride to 22 South and link up some roads and create your own loops. Springbank road, airport road, etc. Or go to Bragg Creek, have an espresso and back.
When we were getting into road riding years ago, we would sometimes drive to Bragg Creek and ride to the end of hwy 66 and back. Eventually we would just ride it from home, but at the time my wife didn't like the traffic on hwy 22, so we cut that part off.

I always park at the gas station north of Cochrane and head west. Horse Creek et al are great rides. Enjoy the new bike!

I love the Emonda. I wanted one after my Trek Domaine but decided to try something different.
I did the Spring and Fall MEC rides this year. Also the Highwood Gran Fondo (152km). It was tough but a lot of fun.
In the past I’ve done the Badlands Gran Fondo. It’s tough too because of wind out there.
The Ride to Conquer Cancer is a great, well supported event. I’ve done it a few times. I think there might be a little too much “production” for that one since it’s a charity ride. I’d prefer to see more money go to the research but I guess they’re trying to get every skill level on the road.
I’d like to do a CP ride at the beginning and end of the season. Get a few different groups of people out there.

Here's a short, short video of the roads we found down south. No cars. Smooth roads. Tempted to play hooky from work again next week. The forecast looks great.
Sorry for filming vertically. I was distracted biking with my phone.

Bike sharing service Limebike is "days" away from getting up and running in Calgary:
https://globalnews.ca/news/4558638/l...rogram-e-bike/
Bikes are e-assist and top out around 24km/h. It is a dockless system meaning bikes can be left anywhere in the home zone (similar to Car2Go). I downloaded the app yesterday and here is the initial home zone:

Thanks for posting.
These are great. They are everywhere in most US cities.
I assume they'll shut'er down come winter?
Wonder how long till we get scooters.
And why didn't they have these 15 years ago?
I could see my friends and I riding these to/from the bar en masse and creating chaos.
