Go to 26:45. Friedman is saying Sutter will get looks and then Marek says that "Calgary is the obvious one".

It's one thing for the flames to reach out to Sutter and whole different thing for Sutter to be willing to consider coaching Calgary again.
Also if posters hate boring GG hockey , why would they like Sutter boring hockey?

Alberta guy. In my opinion, not exactly the guy this team needs...along with the fire I think there needs to be proven recent NHL success so there is no doubt amongst the players that the coaches techniques have been proven to work.
But we' ll see. There have been rumblings about him the last while.
|
Agree with you 100% that is what this team needs. Which is kind of too bad given it’s a young team. If next coach doesn’t work out quickly, a lot of guys will start carrying around coach killer reputations.

Look at the Kings' players offensive numbers ie Doughty during and after Darryl. I respect the heck out of the Sutters but I want offensive, entertaining hockey.

Boring Sutter hockey. Go back and watch them in the 2014 playoffs against the Sharks and the Blackhawks. We should be so lucky to have such a boring team. Or one that completes comebacks. Stares down adversity. Wins when it matters etc. Full disclosure, he isn't my first choice, but I'd be more than happy with Darryl back in the fold.

Can't see this roster being able to play the brand of hockey Sutter would want out of them. There would have to be some big changes to top 6 forwards.

Not advocating for Sutter, but I'm okay with boring hockey if it means winning more games, and playing up to or above our potential.
exciting + winning = the best
boring + winning = good
exciting + losing = entertaining (at least).
boring + losing = I'm not even going to bother watching

Winning is by far the most "exciting" thing to watch.
The 04 Flames were sure exciting to watch. They didn't have a lot of offence. But they worked hard and wore down their opponents every single game. That's fun to watch.
Sign me up for Sutter hockey. He would know which character players to go after, which this team desperately needs.

Just want a coach that can elevate the skill set of the Flames individual players. Not hem it into a system.
IMO, we have the players that can win games in a counter attack style of game and would win in a punch for punch contest. I'd like to see that brand of hockey. Not Brent Sutters style, not Gullys style.
We have the pieces, just need the visionary.

The team needs to learn to be relentless and not get so high/low, which they did a lot this season. They got cocky during their win streak then got extremely fragile when the bounces stopped going their way following the streak.
Sutter would inject the right attitude in the team and the one they need. Darryl won't let them feel sorry for themselves or throw games. And he knows how to use coaching tactics to his advantage. We won't be walked over in the bench battle on a regular basis.
03-07 Flames were enjoyable to watch and really good at home. They just didn't have much skill. Now they have better and younger skill to work with, but just need some direction.
Sign me up for that.

Considering the unknowns around what coaches would be available and whether or not the flames would even bring the required cash to the table to aquire a guy like Quenville, we should be very excited as fans to be in the conversation to get Sutter. I also wonder if his time off has had his outlook change after seeing some of his Kings players take things to a new level in a different style. Either way... Sutter = one of the best available options.

I would have absolutely no problem with "Sutter Hockey" - at least not Darryl Sutter hockey.
Relentless teams that compete every night. Quick transitioning teams that play consistently solid defence.
I am not sure who my first choice is out of all the coaches in the NHL both under contract and completely available, but Darryl is pretty high on my list.

I keep seeing Trotz mentioned... is there some reason to think he'd be available??

Sutter would legit turn this team around into a contender. I fully believe that, and the move should have been made in December. Would have salvaged this season.

If the Caps fail in the 2nd round (again) he'll probably be turfed. If they finally find a way to get to the 3rd round or better then not sure.

I want to know why no one has asked Treliving for a “vote of confidence” in his coach. All over the sports world, when a coach is perceived to be on the ropes, GMs are asked to comment on their coach’s future... but no one has asked Tree for a comment?
I’m wondering what’s up with that.
