...Right now I would gladly take Brandon Carlo and Zach Senyshyn instead of Hamilton.
Carlo was a Top 4 D in his rookie season and Zach Senyshyn is a top right wing prospect scoring 45 goals a year in junior...
I am pretty confident that you are the only one who would. Both of these players are facing very long odds to become even remotely as good as Dougie Hamilton, who was the youngest defenseman in the NHL this season to score +50 points.

Two years after the Hamilton trade it's very clear Calgary has lost that trade. Boston picks up a Top 4D man as well as a legit top line ring wing prospect. Hamilton would need to end up as a legit #1 Dman for that trade to end up being considered a good trade.
What has Treliving done? Like I said he's made a trade that is a wash and another that was horrible. He is stubborn.
He sees the player he wants to target and he will do what it takes to get that player with reason. Hamilton was not 3 early picks at first either. He talked himself into that to stop Hamilton from going to Edmonton.

Everyone says our needs are a #1RW and #4D well news flash we gave both up in that Hamilton trade.
The reason Treliving hasn't re-signed is because management is objectively examining the moves he's made. Quite frankly, there are many moves that he boldly took that are paying off.
For the second time, Brandon Carlo was not taken with either of our second round picks. He was taken 37th, 8 spots ahead of the 45th pick we sent over. He would not have been available at either 45 or 52 (the two picks we sent in addition to 15).

On June 26, 2015, the Bruins traded Hamilton to Calgary for three picks used to draft Zach Senyshyn, Jeremy Lauzon, and Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson.
Two years on and the three have one game between them. Senyshyn had an unimpressive OHL season this year with 65 points. He will be lucky to score more than 30 points in his rookie season, he will be equally lucky to develop into a constant 40-50 point player, something Hamilton has been for the past 3 seasons while playing defence.
Have your opinions on Hamilton and Senyshyn, but before you go calling the GM stupid, you should probably make sure you avoid the stupid mistake of naming a player who wasn't involved in the Hamilton trade in any way, while moaning about the Hamilton trade.
Top pairing defenceman who can put up 50 >>>> RW who might put up 50

When we made that trade, almost everyone thought Boston lost their minds. I didn't and thought it was a great trade for both sides.
That draft happened to be a really good one and the three guys they took with our picks Senyshyn, Jakub Forsbacka Karlsson, and Jeremy Lauzon all look like they'll be quality NHL players.
The Flames were in greater need of a more certain player than those three potential picks and it made entirely perfect sense to get Hamilton. However, it also made a lot of sense for the Bruins as well. Could be a trade that we look back on in a few years and it will look like the Kiprusoff for Vlasic trade where each team made out really good and impacted their franchise in a positive manner. It was one of the better rebuild on the fly moves I have seen a team make in a long time for Boston.

Ummm no. I believe we took Poirier for St Louis's 22nd overall pic. Our 6th pic was because we sucked lol. As much as it pains me to say Bouwmeester greater than Poirier!

This guy is no where near as measured and well spoken as Gaudreauvertime. This is more ricardodw than Gaudreauvertime.
Nah, ricardodw mostly had a lot of strong and weird opinions he wouldn't back down from, but I don't recall him pretending to have insider info. (He also wrote longer paragraphs.)

Stop being sensible. If the Flames put Hamilton on the market today looking for draft picks, could they do any better? Keeping in mind the so called experts say this is a weak draft.

Easily. Probably would get a top 5 pick + top 5 2nd + something of value.
Say the Canucks picks + Subban.
Even then, I think the value we traded to Boston would eclipse what we'd get in that trade.
Mind you, If I was selecting with what was on the board, I would have taken Kyle Connor, Daniel Sprong, and Kylington at 15, 45, and 52 (plus we would have had the 2 thirds available also)
Connor would probably be a top 3 pick in this draft sadly and I don't think either Sprong or Kylington would reach 20 in this draft.

Voted Smith, would take either Smith or Fleury. There's nobody available that I want to give term to, and I'd like a goalie who can handle the puck on his stick.
Fleury is perfect in terms of contract length and time for development of their own goalies. But if they can't get that done then Bishop is the way to go.
No more wishful thinking / grab a bonafide number one.

But then there's this angle too, and if it's Bishop, it's Bishop. If Tampa didn't have Vasilevsky, and didn't have a bunch of guys who need raises, Bishop would still be a member of the Lightning.
He's BPA, and he'll likely cost a little less given his subpar-ish season. And he can play the puck.
