Yup I gotta say they are my most hated team right now. The entire team plays dirty! from the ex-Cansucks to Katie Perry and Getzlaf. and the rest of this ###### bag team.. Would be nice to see them all fall in the Pacific Ocean and drown!!
Bennett's at least been responsible for some of the team's best hits over that span and he's had more chances to score the Brouwer and he's just having issues getting the puck in the net which I don't think will last forever. Brouwer isn't even physically engaged.
Bennett had a clear breakaway when the score was 1-0 I believe.
The ducks scored on the next shift.
Ultimately it's goals that win games and Brouwer, for all his faults, has done a marginally better job at that then Bennett has this year.
Raise your hand if you thought Troy Brouwer would finish the season with less than 15 goals and STILL score more than bennett.
Show of hands, guys.
OBviously Brouwer has not been great, but for me, there are issues with the team that appear to be much more problematic than an aging UFA not producing like he did.
Bieksa was just on Jim Rome. Good interview actually as they talked about the game and the Gio hit. As much as I dislike Bieksa he came off pretty good in the interview as he said he was on the ice but didn't see the hit so in the skirmish he asked Gio what happened and he said Gio said he hit Fowler and he got hurt and he said the way Gio said it indicated that it was just a hockey play. When he got to the bench and talked to the other guys they were saying they thought it was dirty. Not a bad interview actually.

Absolutely there's issues that are problematic that aren't all on Brouwer but he was brought in to provide leadership, veteran presence, and intangibles and he's been largely unnoticeable and the team still looks at times like it's lacking leadership. With the Wideman contract soon off the books his contract now looks like the worst deal on the team. At least Bouma has one year left on his albatross deal.
I understand that some of the consternation around Brouwer revolves around the term and cap hit of his deal, but I will just point out:
Brouwer has more points in his last 10 games than Sam Bennett while playing less minutes.
In his last 10 games, Brouwer has more points than Frolik with a better +/- averaging about 3-5 minutes less per game.
In his last 10 games, Brouwer has as many points as Ferland while getting roughly the same kind of icetime.
I'm not going to make the argument that Brouwer hasn't disappointed somewhat this season, but let's bring a little context into the situation here: he's filling a hole more adequately than a guy like Freddie Hamilton could, and that's the alternative right now.
Troy Brouwer has as many goals in his last 10 games as Lance Bouma has in his last 60 games.
The problem isn't Brouwer's production, it's the fact that he was brought in specifically to address the lack of size and toughness with this team and he has not used his size and has shown no toughness especially in games when he is needed.
People around the game know what Brouwer isn't doing. Warrener has apparently been ripping into him this morning. I bet Burke is super pissed at Brouwer right now.
Listen to all the comments from the players and coaches, they are all talking about how they stood up for each other. Guess who was a no show in that regard? Yeah, Brouwer, the guy specifically brought in to galvanize the team toughness.
The salary is a sunk cost now, I really don't care about that, and it means nothing in the playoffs. His production is fine, it's what he is, he's just a little off of his normal pace. What has me and a lot of Flames fans pissed off about Brouwer is that he let his teammates and that jersey down; all year long and in particular last game.

No hearing scheduled for Giordano (as expected), but of course Bieksa was front and center running his mouth:
Ducks blueliner Kevin Bieksa wasn’t happy with the hit. From the L.A. Times:
Bieksa said he didn’t get a good live view at the play but said, “It didn’t look clean. It didn’t sound clean.
“We’re a team that sticks up for each other. That’s always been one of our MOs. We’re a physical team. But you know what? We care about each other. We care about Cam. We don’t want to see a teammate on the ice, getting helped carried off, so we’re going to respond the way we did.”
I give a pass to Brouwer and Versteeg as I thought they both had lousy games. But, they're here to show what it takes to go deep into the playoffs. They'd better do that. Bouma, I'm not sure. He's had it turned off for so long, I'm not sure he can turn it on at this point.
.
Why is he still in the lineup and Hathaway isnt? I dont get it. I reeeeallly want to see Hathaway in the playoffs, he could be our next "Ferkland" IMO

Yeah, if Bouma isn't bringing the physicality and toughness, why is he in the line up?
We need him to play like a Clutterbuck, or a Matt Martin. If he isn't willing or able, he needs to be sat in favor of someone who is.

Agree, dude is physical and you can always notice him out there when he plays. I keep forgetting Bouma is even on the roster.
I refuse to take my kids to Disneyland until the Flames win a game against those jerks in Anaheim. I'm pretty confident that's a few thousand I'll never have to spend...
I hate the Ducks so much. Patrick freaking Eaves now lights up the Flames. You'd think just once a Flames goalie could stand on his head and steal one...but nooooooo, closest thing was Kari Ramo in game 5 of that ill fated playoff series.
Just once, just one fricken time!

Rick Ball had a brief but ultimately insightful take on the curse. You show up at the rink and are immediately asked about the curse. It plants that small seed of doubt. He's right. Thats pretty much it. Its why it goes year to year despite player turnover. It gets in their heads. They can tell you it doesn't, but its there and when they face even the slightest adversity it moves to the forefront. Professional athletes. Some of the most superstitious creatures of habit. You bet its in there.
As an aside, Josh Manson is pretty tough. How do the Ducks do it?
They take a 6th round pick and turn it into a 6'3 220lb right shot defensive Dman who can play 18 minutes per night and hold his own in a scrap against some pretty tough customers.
The rate at which they spit out high quality NHL defenseman is sickening.
Iginla would look much better than Brouwer right now.
8 points and 4 game winners in 16 games with the Kings so far, not to mention being happy to drop the gloves and stand up for the team and being the all-time favourite of a whole bunch of the Calgary fan base, all basically acquired for free by LA. Also, when the team faces adversity, Iginla would have drawn a bunch of media pressure away from the rest of the team, whereas nobody cares much about Brouwer. Makes me sad.
