I have a serious man-crush on Monahan's flowing locks. They're epic.

And without some great goaltending we could be down. I hope they shut it down the rest of the game and don't allow so many high scoring chances.

Darren Haynes @DarrenWHaynes
now
Quite an opening 20 mins for the #Flames, who pepper Cam Talbot for 24 shots, one shy of the franchise record of 25 done twice (1988, 2005).

Ugh ... I'm usually a Wideman apologist, I feel he takes way too much heat on here, but tonight he is horriful.

People often forget Mattew is over 200 lbs . He is a young kid who can be a little prick. He has the size to back it up.

Thoughts on that period:
I love everything the Flames are doing in the offensive zone. Lots of smart passes, good anticipation to read the breakout of the Oilers, and they're not passing up shots when they present themselves.
Defensive zone breakouts are very solid. Once the Flames get the puck they're making all the right plays to get up ice with numbers. There's a little spottiness with the d-zone coverage, but nothing that you would be surprised about being the 2nd game of the year.
Our transition defense is abysmal. Truly terrible. This is the only thing they need to work on next practice. Waaaaay too many odd-man rushes and breakaways, and there were similar problems last game.
Every single Flame on the ice has done a solid to good job so far....except Dennis Wideman. I don't think it'll be long before we see Kulak as the regular on that bottom pairing. Wides is just not an NHL regular anymore.

Much better today!
Flames look waaaaaaay more organized and composed, defence pairings are actually working, goalie is sharp, etc etc.
Don't think Tkachuk is going down anytime soon if he keeps playing like this.

It was a shaky first 5 minutes, pretty dominant since McPrincess's goal.

Sadly, Wideman's contract is expiring a year or two too late.
Such an anchor. If he doesn't get it going they need to give him pressbox duty. It's time for Kulak to get some NHL minutes.
