I actually am pretty happy with todays results. Firstly, we don't get to see Matthews or Puljujarvi on the regular as they'll be in the East. So that's a win.
Secondly, Vancouver and Edmonton have some interesting decisions to make.
Do they both take BPA (subjective) in Dubois and Tkachuk? Do they address their need for a potential top pairing D man? I suspect Van addresses their need. EDM, they'll take BPA. The way Dubois is being talked about I don't think he'll drop out of 4.
As far as the Flames go, I'm all for one of Juolevi, Segachev or McLeod. So I suspect I'll be pretty happy on draft day. If it ends up being Tkachuk, that's cool too. Not my favorite prospect but I can appreciate the choice.
And the Flames people have put Mcleod nice and high in their publishings too. Behind their Pick #6 Story they put McLeod in their pick #7 story along with Brown.
Flames writers take on players available at:
#6 players: Chychrun, Sergachev, Juolevi
#7: Juolevi, McLeod, Brown
#8: Keller, McAvoy, Max Jones.
Seems off from the beaten path so I am very keen on draft day and seeing how this all pans out.

Chychrun probably has more chest Hair than Tkachuck.
I'm not advocating drafting Chychrun just saying he's probably more manly with more chest Hair.

Totally Agreed.
And it's also the reason one of the 5 forwards in front won't fall to us despite any positional needs of the teams in front of us. Edmonton would be silly to take a worse talent even if they need a D-man (obviously if there's not much in it then it doesn't apply). But even if you want the D-man you don't just pick down your list, you either trade down and get the D-man plus something else, or you pick the forward and trade him for the d help you need, but you don't devalue you pick simply because positionally you need something different.

Also, how fitting that WPG gets another Selanne type franchise player? I like it honestly, their young player depth is envious (EDIT: Grammar correction, Evniable).

Tkachuk and Dubois are our guys at this point IMO. Both would be great fits with Bennett. Those saying Tkachuk is a product of Marner well if he gets to play with Bennett then he can be a product of him

We know how he slipped to 3, because the Panthers wanted a d-man and the Sabres really liked Reinhart. But why did the Oilers pass on him and take Draisaitl? I could have sworn the talk at the draft was because Draisaitl was a bigger player and played the harder game. But again, whatever the reason was, surely you can agree that they didn't draft BPA. That was my point.
Oh and next time, don't be a tool by posting "so much wrong with this". Explain why, I'm more than willing to admit when i'm wrong, as I clearly was on a few things. But my general point still stands I think.

Yep, the more I read about these guys I want the flames to take one of Chychrun/Juolevi/Sergachev at number 6.
All of them are reported to be excellent skaters, good puck moving D who can get the puck into the offensive zone and create. "Powerplay Quarterback" is something that shows up in a lot of scouting reports, and all three of them have glowing reviews of their skating.
Juolevi is currently the smallest at 188 lbs, Chychrun the biggest at 215. All three stand 6'2" and shoot left. It sounds like Juolevi is the most offensive-minded of the three, that Sergachev is the most physical and that Chychrun is the closest to being NHL ready. Last Word on Sports uses the term "Franchise" to describe both Chychrun and Sergachev. The name "Ekblad" gets brought up a lot in scouting reports on Chychrun, while there isn't a lot of consistency in who Juolevi and Sergachev get compared to.
Juolevi had a phenomenal World Juniors while neither Chychrun nor Sergachev played for their teams and both underwhelmed at the U-18's.
I don't think any of them would be considered a reach at #6, while pretty much any forward outside of the discussed top-5 would be. Top-pairing/Franchise D are as hard, if not harder, to come by than number-one centres. The Flames have the opportunity to get one here with the sixth pick.
If I had to rank my choices I'd probably go Chychrun, Juolevi, Sergachev, but I'll freely admit I wanted Lindholm over Monahan and Draisaitl over Bennett so I'll leave the choice up to the Flames scouting staff.
I hope we take one of these three D-men, whichever the Flames staff has ranked highest on their list.

Dubois is interesting as well. Projects to be a solid winger.

Is there a likely scenario where Dubois or Tkachuk fall to 6? Oilers, if they trade it's to someone who likely thinks they need that position to get one of those two. Vancouver likely keeps and BPA is probably the one that's left. There is not total consensus on 4 and 5, but pretty close it seems.

So we're really going to split hairs about not having a top three pick in the line up, whole having a guy picked at four?

I think you are right. Either the Nucks or Oilers will take him but I suspect the Oilers will.

As much as we need a player on the top line, I think it's "really" important the Flames find someone to complement Bennett. Bennett at times had to do the work by himself (The night he scored 4 goals a prime example). There were a number of times this season he scooped up misplayed pucks from teammates to score quick goals. To many goals were not a result of being on the the receiving end of some great passing. It must be frustrating for him not to have a player he can give and go with at his level of play. If we can address that area of need I think we can move into another level of play as a team. With Backlund showing some strong play I think we are only 2 or 3 pieces away from being a solid team.

I get your point and we will leave that topic behind because we don't like it and don't want that.
On topic, what if Edmonton and Vancouver take Dubois and Tkachuk, do you trade the pick?

Pretty happy with how everything went to be honest. I'll take picking #6 over #5 10/10 times to not see a Finn or Matthews in VAN/EDM, that would of made me sick. Don't think it will change who we pick too much either. Lots of good players between 4-8 available.
