Nope, I'm saying the developer of Currie Barracks—our federal government—doesn't want to build low-income housing in that development and don't have to.
It may be a sentiment that residents around Glenmore Landing share, that they don't want low-income housing there, but our municipal government has the opportunity to get it built by a willing third-party and they're going for it.

I mean lets not kid ourselves. Glenmore Landing is a tire fire of a shopping complex to begin with. This may make it marginally worse. I despise having to go there and unfortunately it's fairly often even though I don't live remotely near there.
As to buildings aesthetics.. isn't there highrise buildings literally 2 blocks west of there? And low rise?

Why would it, it’s pressure was reduced as part of the TUC going around the city instead of through the city and is a code compliant regularly inspected pipeline in a highly populated area.

It is possible that even more lower income Calgarians work around downtown so it might be nice for them to live in closer proximity like Currie Barracks.

Given the shortages of subsidized housing this seems like an opportunity to do both.

My crackpot proposal to improve Glenmore Landing is to evict the running store. Not sure if it is still the case but they used to start their group runs from there and I swear half the parking lot would fill up with runners.
The worst McDonalds drive thru in Calgary© also contributes to the parking bedlam there.

Haha, that seems to be the case and that is the absolute worst McDonalds.

And they got rid of that awesome boat style seating area. It doesn’t affect the traffic but it almost certainly affected property values in the surrounding areas. I mean how could it not have?

If only there were more people living nearby willing to take the low income jobs...

Right, the solution to the mess that is Glenmore Landing is 4 towers.
I mean there are people working there, and the issue isn't a lack of employees. There are also a lot of places around the shopping center to live at a lot of income levels.

So how does this relate to the BRT?
Also it looks like there is plenty of room along the outside edge of Glenmore Landing shopping area for apartment buildings. As a basic check, I measured the footprint of the Vevo / Sasso (overkill for what seems to be proposed) condos downtown and there is tonnes of space for 4 towers of that size. Yeah, that doesn’t speak to the issue of traffic, but it doesn’t seems that bad to me without seeing the actual plan.

Oh that definitely still happens.. I actually don't think it's a running group, more of a wear name brand spandex and stretch in the stupid parking lot before going for coffee group.
I don't know why they annoy me so much, they really shouldn't, I think it's more the case that driving into that parking lot annoys me so they're just an associated casualty.

Despite everyone wanting perfect neighbours and keeping the "problems" far away from ourselves, I truly think everyone ends up better off with economically diverse neighbourhoods. The "preserving of character" is just indirectly taking away time with family and opportunities by shoving lower income people into either crappy neighbourhoods.
Kids who grow up with neighbours owning business, or friend's parents able to put in a good word at "the firm" have so much more opportunity. Making the only way to afford housing moving to the edge of the city also means you put the burden of car ownership on those least able to afford it, or people eat up a huge chunk of their time on transit instead of being their for their kids.
Kids with good homes and good opportunities means less crackheads to step over at the train station in 20 years.

They only have $50M, that's all they can spare given the cost of the Green Line and they'll need every dollar they can find to cross the Bow.

I got around to seeing the development plan and it looks awesome. The long term plan fixes pretty much every problem with the existing development. And they show 4 parkade accesses too. Seems like a no brainer for Glenmore Landing.
