If we're convinced he's a washout, who cares what team he goes to. If we're not convinced why are we not giving him a shot. I assume the Flames are convinced he hasn't got it and I trust them to make the trade.

Good trade. Would be better to send him out east but we can address our D with these 2nd round picks

If it ends up being a 2nd and 3rd round pick, then I'm quite a bit more happy with this move. I hadn't given up on baertschi but if he wanted out than good riddance. We have seen first hand how valuable character guys in the dressing room can be. If the rumors are true, it doesn't sound that baertschi fits that mold.
Edit: Apparently Vancouver doesn't have a 3rd.

I like this trade.
It became apparent that Sven was not going to make the lineup. With the risk of losing him on waivers next year Treliving had to field offers. It sucks that it was the Canucks but a second round pick is good considering how deep the draft is this year.
Often a change of scenery can help rejuvinate a players career. I wish his well.

That sounds to me more like Flames fans wanting to watch their arch rival team get burned then actually looking at the big picture and seeing we got a 2nd round pick for an AHL player who wasn't in the teams plans going forward. Whenever you trade any player to any other team, technically you are helping them stock their cupboards anyways. That's what trades do. Again as I said in my post, if someone can give me a solid example of a Flames player being traded to a rival and having it bite us in the ass hard, I'm all ears. Otherwise it's just fans upset that a rival got one of our players.
A couple weeks ago would you have seen Sven as that player who would be helping us in a playoff push a couple seasons down the road? A couple days ago he was a long shot to make the team. He was being passed by other guys on our depth chart. Now suddenly because he's with Vancouver he's a threat to us who will ''come back to bite us in the ass''? Sorry but I'm not buying it. If anything, a trade like this just goes to show how good our prospect depth is that we can even consider making a trade like this.

VAN 2nd
CGY 3rd
WSH 3rd
This summer. That's rad.

Taking current standings:
15th;

80th.
That's a lot of early picks, especially if we also get Van's 3rd, and assuming it is Van's 2nd in 2015, as reported.
It's still not on nhl.com, though...

Let's create a tradition of trading Swiss players for 2nd's at the trade deadline.
Seeing as how Hiller is due up next year, another 2nd next year is in the bag!

good lord, everyone is right, we should have waited for this kid to come around...like Rico Fata, Danny Tkachuk, Brent Krahn, Chris Chucko. It's about time they started unloading dead weight drafted prospects while they still have value.
Guy is a dud.

I recall hearing on St Louis Blues talk radio several years ago, Blues scout at that time, Jarmo Kekalainen? discussing the trade of 2009 1st rounder David Rundblad for a 2010 1st round pick. He said something to the effect of not falling in love with your draft picks, and cutting your losses early while the prospect still has value
The Blues turned Rundblad into Tarasenko because they had a good idea within a year of his draft that he was not developing the way they projected. Risky move if Rundblad turns into something, and Tarasenko didn't
Glad Flames management took the calculated risk of trading Sven now. Too bad previous Flames management couldn't pull it off with Chucko, Pelech, Irving etc

Some reports saying a 3rd round pick to calgary too? I don't think Vancouver had a 3rd this year so is that where he 2017 confusion comes in?

Maybe, but Sven has to clear waivers with Vancouver. Vancouver could lose him on waivers, or they might have to keep him and bury a another prospect too. He was a pretty good prospect, but we're trying to reach back to what a prospect did when he was 19 from a 22 year old.... hoping he can go back to the quality of prospect as a 19 year old.
Also...
- the deal was done at the dying minutes of UFA, Sven has to clear waivers next year. This is just my interpretation, but a 2nd round pick was the most they felt they could get for him and Vancouver could have been the only one offering.
- Why Vancouver, the only team in the division? Vancouver might be the only team offering (or offered the most) because of the connection to Green (his former coach? or at least getting this from SN)

With news that Baertschi wasn't likely to re-sign here following this year, the deal with Vancouver makes a little more sense. #Flames

Baertschi has Oleg Saprykinitis. Tons of skill, can't stay on his feet. Guys like that don't typically excel in the NHL. Vancouver sounds like the perfect place for him, lol.
edit: Also surprised the Jets didn't take him. I know for a fact Chevy was a big Baertschi fan.

If that's what he requires--anger vs a former team on which he didn't show enough compete--to bring his game to the pro level...then chances are he can't. If you follow.
