Isner takes out Nishikori in straight sets (6-4, 6-3) in 70 minutes. He has played well this tourney, but I didn't see that coming.

Awesome match so far between Ferrer and Djokovic. Gotta root for Ferrer, just want to see him win one.

Genie takes a wildcard to the Family Circle Cup, gets the #1 seed, promptly blown away 6-3, 6-1. Gonna be a very long year for her, forget staying in the top 20 with her current play she'll be lucky to stay in the top 40.

this is a more spectacular tumble than Sloane Stephens had the year after her breakout. what the effs the problem? new coach sucks? injured? disinterested or distracted with too many photo shoots?

She hasn't evolved her game and everyone has figured her out. If she insists on continuing to play as she is, she needs to play perfect pretty much every match. I do think the off court stuff is distracting her but Serena does off court stuff all the time and still dominates. I don't think it's an acceptable excuse, but it's probably a big contributor.
Her ranking collapse is just around the corner. She'll stay in the top 10 for a few more weeks, then within 3 tournaments has 2,500 points to defend. Sounds like she's not playing the tournament she won last year so that's 500 points right away down the drain. She likely will be outside the top 10 when the French starts. Could be outside the top 20 by the time Wimbledon is over.

Genie has decided to play in the Fed Cup next weekend. Canada's taking on Romania. Perhaps this will give her some confidence? It's in Montreal, so that's pretty good motivation to have a good showing in her hometown.

Milos had to pull out with a foot injury. Hopefully it's nothing too serious.

He had a 7 minute injury timeout in yesterday's match against Robredo and gutted out a win, but I was watching today's match and you could see it was bothering him. He was trying to keep the points as short as possible (serving and volleying on clay) and Berdych was eating him up.

Big win for youngster Francoise Abanda at the Fed Cup! She puts Canada up 1-0 against the Romanians, which will take some pressure off of Genie.

Genie blew it anyway. Aside from her poor on-court play, Genie once again being a poor sport in the pre-event ceremonies is also disappointing.

I saw that. She didn't want to shake hands, even though her opponent extended it to her. Disappointing indeed.

She's done a pretty good job of taking the shine of herself mighty quick. Needs to get it together already, the no handshake stuff is particularly dumb because you get nothing out of it. Game is just going backwards at this point.

Totally agree.
On the plus side, some great photos of Francoise. You have to adore that look of pure jubilation! (especially when you're representing your country)

Abanda might be surpassing Genie a lot sooner than we thought. Another sub-100 ranking loss as Romania makes a late switch and Genie loses 4-6, 6-4, 6-1. It's pretty much all in her head right now.

That's crazy.
Up to Abanda now the even the tie. Abanda won the first set
BTW: the US got relegated. Serena won her two singles matches but could not beat the unbeatable Errani/Penneta in doubles.

Genie has to get her head straightened out. She's going off the rails quickly. Kind of shocking, actually.

And Canada got relegated because she couldn't beat players that are supposedly much worse than she is. Extremely disappointing. The timing is a shame. What Genie may need most is to just disappear for a little while and try to work out her game in private. But with the majors coming up soon, she instead has to try and figure it out in the public eye.

Gotta love the rankings system. Despite her steep decline in play, Genie just moved up a spot in the rankings. Of course she's probably gonna drop 20 spots in about 3 tournaments coming up so take the bumps up when you can.

Rock bottom?
Tennis Canada @TennisCanada
#Bouchard got off to a hot start, but couldn't finish vs Strycova as she falls 0-6, 6-3, 6-3 in her Madrid opener. #CdnTennis
