I'm kind of hoping Burke's plan B is to keep Cammalleri, then move off Hudler for good picks/prospects.

Yup, pretty sure Roy wouldn't of left Quebec without having that extra control, definitely a different type of setup.

They did alright.

Did they ever have 8 or 9 in the top 100?
Chicago twice had 6 in the top 100 but I can't recall any team ever having 8

In order to go through the rebuild successfully, we really need to get as many prospects as possible that have some potential.

Hudler could definitely fetch a decent return at the draft, however I like him as a Flame.

Team building is much more than just stockpiling picks. We have seven picks now, but two of the ones we traded were turned into pieces more valuable than what we gave up. That is the real key to building better teams.

I don't think they did actually. Even if it's a bit unrealistic to do so, I don't think it would be that hard.
We could trade Hudler for a mid/late 1st + 3rd and that would jump us to 7.

Wow what a great trade. A second rounder for a guy who has shown pretty much nothing at the NHL level and has a bunch of weaknesses? Awesome.

I definitely agree. We could also move "depth" prospects similarly for guys as well.
I would prefer us getting more high end prospects though. If you look at our recent picks from the past 3 years in the top 4 rounds, we have got
Monahan, Poirier, Klimchuk, Gillies, Sieloff, Jankowski, Kulak, Granlund, Wotherspoon, Gaudreau, Baertschi and Kanzig.
The only one that is not very good is Kanzig from that group. Every other one of those guys is trending towards becoming solid NHLers in some aspect.
That's why if I am a bit bullish on getting picks from the top 100 or so there's a good reason.
Additionally, this year, there seem to be a number of good defensemen that are in the middle of the 2nd round/middle of the third round that might become those random guys that develop into something very good like what Damon Severson is doing for NJ.

Not sure why they are there, maybe just to symbolize the return, but its not a conditional pick.

Way I see it, Berra and Henrik Karlsson are very much one and the same. Karlsson gets a 7th rounder, yet Burke pulls a 2nd rounder out of his ass!?
Awesome, awesome deal.

FLA had 7 in the top 100 of 2011 with four of them being fourth rounds. Too early to tell on that draft though.
FLA also had 7 in the top 100 of 2010 including three 1sts and three 2nds. Again a bit too early to tell. Bjugstad looks good to me, Gudbranson may yet turn the corner.

kris Russell is worth more to this team than fifth round pick. It is more valuable to move your higher round picks for players like Russel, that can be a key piece to the future. Same with the Colborne trade.

yup, during the 4th round, I am going to be thinking 'Colborne'. And during the 5th, I'll be thinking 'Russell'.
After those two rounds I'll be thinking: well played

Buffalo had 7 in the top 100 of 2013, if you include Carrier (#57) who they just acquired in the Miller trade.

Naw. Karlsson was garbage all the time behind a decent team. Berra was inconsistent and allowed his share of bad goals, but when looking at the grand scheme he was a decent first year goaltender that was exploited on a really bad team.

I'm not sure what Berra's habit of losing his net and going swimming have to do with a bad team in front of him. Those seem like fundamentals to me, and he was pretty scary in them sometimes.
