they keep believing what Cherry and other media hacks are saying about him. He does have a serious case of the try hards right now. But he's far from the bum most are making him out to be.

Keith had a couple of bad turnovers, no one mentioned those. If Subban had made those mistakes he'd be crucified on here.

Subban makes reckless plays on a consistent basis and it results in turnovers and stupid penalties.
Every defensemen has mistakes in their game. Subban is also reckless on top of it and takes boneheaded penalties.

He wanted that sweet sweet 7-0 goal.
I get why he did it, it's just the complete opposite motivation I'd like to see him have out there, and probably why Hamhuis will be in.
Defensemen have bad games and turnovers are sucky, but they happen, especially on a new team with new teammates on a new ice surface.
Being caught totally out of position on several occasions is a glaring mistake. That happens too, but it seems to have happened with alarming frequency when Subban was on the ice compared to the rest of Canada's defense.
That one was egregious, but so was the other one where he made a remarkable play to bail himself out. That it happened in successive shifts is troublesome.

So apparently everyone hates Glenn Healy and the CBC broadcasters in general. All the top comments in this article (a CBC Olympics article no less) are bashing the announcing.

I just think Glenn Healy's comments were embarrassing.
"The Austrian team is mad up of 3 players who's played with Crosby, and 20 who want his autograph".
And the rest of the comments were of similar style. Have some freaking humility and professionalism Glenn. I cringed every time he opened his yap.
Onto the actual game, what's crazy with Carter's natural hattrick is he did it playing the least amount of minutes of any guy on the Canadian team.

I wasn't able to watch the game. How did in particular Crosby, Tavares, Towes play?
Carter by the sounds was the star of the day. Was he moved to the 4th line?
Thanks...

Price should have another chance at this in 2018 unless Luongo can't hack it against the Finns. And to anyone saying he was just okay in 2010, he had a .927 save percentage in a best on best tourney, that's nothing to sneeze at. Without his third period performance there's a decent chance we lose to Slovakia.
As for the scratches, the forward is definitely tough but after today there's just no way it can be Duchene or Carter. It could be MSL but I hope not. Kunitz has been bad two games in a row. Give Benn his spot.
Meanwhile, on defense, Vlasic has been just okay for two straight games. I really just think unless PK hurt himself there in the third, keep him in. He's the type of guy who could give you a goal when you really need it.
|
Agree with a lot of this.
Kunitz looks like me playing shinny with my former pro friends - holding the line back, not really involved in the play, not really doing a whole lot out there besides chasing the puck around. He should be the easy forward scratch. I understand the selection but at this point he's dead weight as far as I'm concerned. I'd put Duchene and possibly Nash with Crosby.
I don't know a whole lot about Vlasic, but I will say that he's been invisible, which isn't necessarily a bad thing as we all know with defensemen. At least he hasn't been bad. Nobody (D-wise) really has been, but Bouwmeester hasn't looked great either. He had a perfect back door pass chance against Austria and fumbled the puck away. Healy said the puck jumped on him but I never saw a replay and Healy's an idiot. When you're splitting hairs this way it becomes a bit of a crapshoot but I think the D scratch should be either Vlasic or Bouw. Subban's speed and puck-rushing ability could come in very handy in a game where you need a spark, and its not like he's bad defensively (blocked a good shot and came back on that Doughty pinch to eliminate a forward) so I'd keep him in. Hamhuis really surprised me against Norway; I thought he looked great so I'd give him another look against Finland and re-evaluate after that.
As for goaltending I think Luongo played really well. He was tested more than Price was, and Norway's one goal was pretty much entirely Price's fault. Yes it was deflected but he misplayed the puck badly and was scrambling from there on. Price looked nervous to me whereas Luongo has been here before. I think people around here tend to have a bit of a bias against Luo (shocking I know) but my gut says to stick with him.

A few players, Doughty included, pinched and turned the puck over. It happens. Usually the other defenceman covers for them, in case there is a turnover.
Subban let the other forward behind him on two separate occasions, it's no secret that Subban isn't good defensively.

So have we settled down a tad on Jeff Carter being on the Olympic team yet? Pretty good showing today. Even if it was against the folks from down un.....Austria, land of the Swartzeneggers. 'GET TO THE HOCKEY NOW! GO!"

Same sort of thing with Cherry. Yes, we know that these are the weaker teams in the tournament, you dont have to be an arrogant ass about it.
Fans understand that there arent going to be a lot of positives or even genuine analysis to be pulled out in games against Norway and Austria, but at least pretend to be humble about it.
Hell, I enjoyed that Norway game, they played hard and kept it tight and deserve huge props not; "I cant believe Canada didnt score 10 more goals in that game!! Hurr-durr!!!"

I loathe Healy, always have. But at least on HNIC all he is doing is embarrassing himself. Here, on the Olympics, he is embarrassing Canada.
Please CBC, get him the **** off of the coverage.

Off topic question:
When coaches corner was on during the Canada game yesterday, Ron and Don said they would be talking about Jarome Iginla in the prime time show. Did anyone here catch what they said or is there a video of it?

Yeah I caught it. It was typical coaches corner nonsense that really didn't make sense, just some weird parallel to fill air time. (But all in a good way)
Basically some coach from another team or something is from St Albert, so they used that to bring up Iginla who is also from St Albert and showed some Iginla highlights from 2002 and 2010 and how integral he was to those teams. It is kinda nice because by my count it is the second time CBC has referenced Iginla as "The straw that stirred the drink" for Canada over the past 12 years.
2002? absolutely, 2010? debatable except of course for "The pass."
