Congrats to Iggy for another 30 goal season!
It's so awesome to see him succeed when many people thought it didn't have it anymore.
The Bruins are the best team in the league IMO and hopefully come out of the Eastern Conference. I hope he gets his chance to play for Lord Stanley.

I think they win last year if even half healthy, Bergeron playing on one leg one arm and one lung was a huge blow.

I had no idea Iggy was leading the bruins in goals and only 2 pts back of the lead for points. Really turned it on as of late (as every season goes) and am excited to watch him at his best in the playoffs!

Another 5 goals and Iggy will be in the top 10 goals leaders in the NHL this year! Pretty awesome considering the Bruins really don't have anyone scoring above 40 goals a season and usually spreads the scoring around.

Yes, Northendzone, it appears as though Jarome Iginla is still playing in the league on a regular basis.

Iginla has been better than advertised for Bruins....
Quote:
“He’s been exactly what we needed,” said Patrice Bergeron. “The style that we preach, he does. He’s been a great addition for us. He’s been doing that his whole career, and that consistency is hard to do. He’s been doing it all along. He works hard, he’s a terrific teammate and an even better player.”
|
Quote:
“I feel fortunate. I’ve been able to play with some great passers and players during my career, and it’s been like that this year with Krejci and Lucic,” said Iginla. “I’ve been getting some good bounces lately, but it’s been a fun year. To win games, to be at the top of the league and to be on some streaks with this group has been very fun.”
|
Quote:
“When you look at the start he had, nobody would have predicted [30 goals], but he’s a pretty streaky goal scorer, and in the second half he’s usually pretty good,” said Claude Julien. “He’s been providing that goal-scoring for us for a while now.
“Even when he didn’t score at the beginning of the year, he didn’t panic and he came to the rink with a smile on his face every day. He was just happy to be a part of the group. There was no stress, and he just kept working. Even when he wasn’t scoring, you’d see hi throwing his weight around or dropping the gloves. He was always doing something to help the team out. Now that his goal-scoring has picked up, it’s been our best.”
|
Quote:
“I love it here. Honestly the season is going so fast, and we’re just trying to keep going as a group and keep getting better,” said Iginla. “I’ve said it a lot, but it’s been a lot of fun this year. I’ve been getting great opportunities, I’ve had fun winning, and it’s a great group of guys.
“I’m not sure what the future holds, but I’m just hoping that winning on the ice, and winning as a group, takes care of all that stuff. The focus isn’t really there [on what will happen this summer], but I’ve been really fortunate to get a second opportunity here. It’s gone as good as I could have hoped for, and even better from everything I’ve experienced in the city all the way to my kids’ minor hockey. It’s been fun. The more success you have as a team gives you more chances to stay together as a team.”

Northendzone should be tarred and feathered for that one.
Congrats to Iggy! What a great season... go all the way Captain!

Could you imagine how much more Iginla could have produced in his career if he wasn't such a dormant scorer in the first few months of what seems like every season? Don't recall a player that was so consistent in starting slow nearly ever season of his career.

Zac Rinaldo is a puke.
Ever since he slewed a Devil, and Brayden Schenn got caught up in it, and fought Kovalchuk who actually wooped him.
I hope this fires up Iggy for the next time they play, hopefully in the playoffs.

I agree with you that the notion that he was lazy or a coach killer was completely unfounded. This season has shown that he's willing to play within the system a coach installs without cheating or having the team succeed in spite of him.
That being said, one of the big successes this year is the way this group of players became a team, with many guys taking on leadership roles on and off the ice. That didn't and wouldn't have happened with Iginla here not because he actively discouraged it, but because everyone saw the Flames as Iginla's team on and off the ice. I imagine it would have been really hard for a young guy like Backlund or a new guy like Hudler to become a force in the dressing room when you have the face of the franchise, the all time leading scorer, an NHL all-star, and first ballot hall of famer there. Similarly, when a big goal was needed on the ice, it's easy to sit back and leave it to Iginla because of how often he'd done it in the past.
When Iginla left, it left a huge gap that either would have been a void that crushed the team, or an opportunity that lead to growth. The fact that the Flames have flourished in Iginla's absence should be as credit to the strength of the guys left behind, not a fault of the guy that left.
|
First off, I will say I am not surprised Iggy got 30+ this season. I have been saying it all year, the guy can still play the game. He is a beauty.
So there is an element of true to this statement, however, using the word flourished is a huge over statement.
The Flames are playing much more exciting hockey, and playing with a lot of heart and purpose, which they didn't have in the past few seasons. They rarely get blown out and play in a lot of close games.
The fact is though, this season is going to be the lowest point totals Calgary has had in over a decade. They are going to finish in the bottom 5 in the NHL, which is exactly what everyone expected. Obviously Iginla and Kipper kept them from being a bad team these past few years, but it was time to move on. Calgary wanted to be a good team again, not just a team thats not bad.
What we didn't expect was them to put on such a good show while losing most games. I am not going to lie, I am enjoying watching the Flames this season. They are still a very bad hockey team though, and the rebuild has just began. There are positives everywhere and the future is starting to look good for Calgary, as a rebuild should if done right. I just think to say the Flames are flourishing without Iginla is just not true. They are in a new era, and are playing a different brand now.
I will add, In year one of Calgary's rebuild, they are miles ahead of Edmonton who is in year 7 of there rebuild.
Anyways, Iginla fits in with Boston like a glove. Love to see this success. He has worked for it and deserves it. It makes it so much more fun to watch him play when he plays with a purpose. He will finish with 35 goals!! 7 games left.
