What ever happened to Roslin's "truth and reconciliation" comission where everyone who collaborated with the Cylons on New Caprica would be forgiven without any trials or punishments? Does that offer not extend to Baltar?

He admitted in the last episode that he was involved in the original Cylon surprise attack on the Twelve Colonies.

The issue of the upcoming trial will probably be whether or not he knowingly gave up the information that helped the Cylon's succeed.

IIRC, he only admitted that while he was being tortured, though. If Roslin had held true to her word, he would have been forgiven and never tortured to begin with.

I'm actually rather upset that Baltar is back with the humans. I thought it was more interested when he was with the Cylons, as it allowed them to show us more about how their society and technology works. It's really a lost opportunity that that story arc lasted fewer than 10 episodes.

There are many who disliked knowing more about the Cylons, preferring mystery instead . . . .

Roslin only forgave New Caprica. She didn't forgive Old Caprica and the other 11 planets comprising the Twelve Colonies. That was my point. Baltar confessed to involvement in the original genocide.

And what a drug-induced memory that Roslin has!!!

This might be a society where a tortured confession is as good as gold. Sci-fi can be anything the authors want it to be.

Torture is a legitimate tool for gathering information, like all tools it has its ups and its downs.

Also, a HUMAN who signed the death warrants of humans is a smidge different than a human who say cooked the Cylons dinner - that is the person that Roslin pardoned.

Baltar deserves to be killed, he is a traitor to his people and deserves like any traitor to be shown no mercy and to have his life ended.

If anyone is interested, some Battlestar Galactica t-shirts and what not at this link:

http://www.cafepress.com/buy/battlestar+galactica

I like the one: "I survived New Caprica and all I got was this lousy fraking T-shirt."

Or . . . "Roslin/Adama/2008"

Or . . . "I love Fat Apollo"

Thought I would bump up and continue the thread as there seems to be some fans on this site.

A good re-kickoff after the superbowl (I pin I pun). The episode again focused inwards, and outside of a brief appearance by 6 who had a conversation with Boomer, and then with the in her head baltar, and a 30 second conversation about Baltar's pending trial this was a internal flawed human episode at its finest.

Its bad enough that the Human's need to unite to survive the Cylon's, but its even worse then one of your few doctors is killing races that he dosen't like. Helo once again threw himself into jeopardy, and ended up punching out a senior officer (Tigh).

Apparently even Sagitarian's hate thier own kind.

I'm confused at how a human cylon hybreed who's blood can apparently conquor cancer gets sick that easily especially considering that there was no human contact with a sick person, kind of a weird plot device there.

Funny that there wasn't an autopsy ordered by Coddle (sp?) after the first victim died after apparently receiving the meds.

Yes, Starbuck had a brief scene where surprise surprise she acted looke jealous and was drunk.

Over all a very good episode, that didn't answer any questions but showed how low humanity can fall.

The return of Tom Zarek with an ominious, emotional warning to Roslin over the coming trial of Baltar was interesting, obviously setting up chaos in the future.

Perhaps that was also the purpose of this entire episode, to highlight again the differences within the core of humanity and the 12 Colonies so that it sets up something in a future episode, this time dealing with the consequences of trying Baltar in a public forum.

The trial might be an allusion of the divisions created (theoretically) by the trial of Saddam Hussein.

For the first time, we have people watching with interest instead of curiousity as someone has a conversation with an imaginary friend!!!

What role will SIX have in the trial of Baltar?

The episode seemed to bring Helo back into the fold as a character standing on his own instead of in the shadow of Athena.

Yeah I forgot about Zarek's dire warning about the trial, but you have to wonder how reformed he really is, and if his warning is foreshadowing that he's going to play some more of his split the government games during the trial. I thought it would be a more interesting dynamic if he defended Baltar, one traitor to another.

I think Six is going to testify against Baltar at the trial, its the only thing I can see now, it also adds up since she's probably out of range of any resurection ship, so they can hang her mortality over her head. Will they look at her talking to herself as a item of interest or just write it off as a unique behavior even though she was making out with empty air.

People have seen Baltar talking to himself . . . . . he even had Dr. Cottle do a scan of his head to see if there was a chip in there.

We know Baltar is talking to his favourite imaginary Cylon in his own cell so you wonder if anyone is observing both him and SIX and begins to wonder what it might be about.

Loved Baltar's advice to SIX on being human. . . . . you need to be totally self-absorbed.

Zarek might still turn out to be one of the Final Five . . . . are they using his surprisingly emotional warning about a trial for Baltar in the same way they used the previous Gaeta attack on Baltar to raise suspicion that Gaeta might be a Final Five candidate?

hmm, If I recall he had Cottle scan him for illness or tumors, I don't recall them looking specifically for a chip, besides they would almost write off the chip comment since the Cylon's seem to use organic technology and it would be inblisible.

The also caught him with his pants down making sweet love to a lab table, and they didn't make a connection, and its never been the same people seeing him twice so I don't think they're going to see the obvious connection.

I think the Cylons already have the corner market on both self absorbtion and ruthlessness. You look at Cavil's willingness to eliminate a entire cylon line to protect the culture from outside thought. Xena's willingness to continually kill herself to observe the other side. Thier singleminded focus on the extermination of thier enemy.

I don't think that 6 has to do anything to become more human except drinking beer and farting at inappropriate times

I think its pretty good writing since we're so focused that everyone is a member of the final five missing cylons. If he was indeed part of the final 5, he would love the trial since it would further fracture humanity, unless the final 5 are in a twisted way on the side of light (Human's). I don't know if it makes sense that we have another traitorus Cylon among the big characters, I think its likely that the holy crap moment will either be provided by a relatively minor cast member, or the 5 will suddenly show up in a space ship that looks like a Ford Fairlane.

I actually enjoyed this episode. It felt like a bit of a throwback to season two for the most part. Most of the episode (except the parts about Baltar's trial and Hera) could easily have taken place during the second season.

I missed the first two minutes of the episode but I was pretty confused at the beginning about where these sagitarons came from. I thought I missed an episode. Did they explain this in the first couple minutes of the show?

I was also surprised to see such a small emphasis on Baltar's trial. But I like the way they are slowly building it up. That's one of the things I love about BSG. The slow build up followed by massive payoff. This indicates to me the episode where they finally have the trial is one not to be missed.

Battlestar to be renewed for a fourth season - LA Times today.

The last three paragraphs of this long story contain a modest spoiler . . . probably something you've figured out already if you've been reading this thread.

Great episode last night - I was thrilled when they brought back Six's vision of Baltar - I find that to be amongst the most interesting plot points.

Gotta say though that Heilo is a pain in the arse isn't he? If I was his CO I would have court-marshalled his ass a long time ago.

Not by the end though he absolved himself well. Know what you're getting at though. Loved it when he belted Tighe and he laughed at him and told him to check his hand.

Doesn't matter that he's right most of the time. He'd just be a pain in the arse guy to manage. You see him coming to talk to you and would have to think "oh dear lord, what's this guy want now".

Which is why I liked this episode. Having both his wife and the old man basically telling him to shut up and do his job was great.

SyFy Portal blogger Michael Hinman who seems to be pretty accurate about Battlestar things had this to say about the Battlestar Direct-to-TV movie that is likely to come along between seasons three and four:

Apparently, such a project is still under way despite it not being mentioned in SciFi Channel's news release Tuesday, and the people at GeekMonthly.com say it might be a little prequel-like.

According to reports, the story will focus on the original Cylon sneak attack of the Twelve Colonies that received bits and pieces of coverage in the 2003 miniseries. It also could feature how the Battlestar Pegasus escaped, creating an opportunity for the return of Michelle Forbes -- who played Adm. Cain in the second season -- to the franchise in the one-time event.

Such a infill-type story could create the return of many characters that have since parted ways from the show, and would fit original reports that such a movie would not interfere in the current timeline being established by the show as it moves through its current third season.

http://forums.scifi.com/index.php?showtopic=2264423

Those familiar with Babylon Five might remember one or two of their subsequent movies were also prequels.

Thought I'd keep this going since there seem to be a few diehard fans on this site, and its interesting to air thoughts on the series.

Another fairly slow episode, but surprisingly there was very little in the way of true plot of character enhancement.

Adama is celebrating the aniversary of his wedding by pulling out a picture of his wife, having a couple of shots, and having discussions with his long dead wife. Now this was a classic swerve episode as spoilers have been promoting a major cast member being one of the lost 5 cylons. Adama's conversations with his wife and the way that he handled the toy ball both in his dreams and in the ready room are strikingly similar to Baltars interaction with 6. It would have been funny for Apollo to walk into Adama's ready room to see the old admiral making sweet sweet love to the table, but this show isn't really about the humor. I digress, while this was probably suppossed to get the uber nerd community discussing this episode as proof of Adama being a cylon, I think its way to obvious.

Outside of that point, this episode was all about relationships. We're shown that Callie and the Chiefs marriage is in trouble until an accident that almost kills them brings them together, a little cliched, and I groaned a bit at the whole airlock pressure leak getting flung into the rescue ship thing as it didn't seem to be that original.

Obviously they're setting up Baltar's trial with Lee as the defense attorney, I'm wondering who's going to prosecute and is 6 going to testify against Baltar. Who's going to be the judge or the jury. I think Adama was right when he said it would have been easier to dissapear Baltar. I also guess its lucky that all of the lawyers are dead because a good defense attorney could tie up the holes that are going to show up in this trial for years.

Adama is going after the president for a little somthin somthin if you know what I mean, but it just seems so flat right now because neither of the actors have portrayed thier characters as either totally passionate or anything but self involved. But I have to say that Roslin was looking good tonight, and if I was a lonely admiral, I'd take her out, get her totally loaded and then read her poetry, or frack her, whatever.

Overall this episode was a complete downer to me as nothing really moved forward more then a few inches, but at least they seem to have Starbuck reverted back to a role that could be played by a cardboard cutout.

bleh.

Hope it gets better next week.

I too did notice Adama acting like Baltar and 6 when remembering and arguing with his dead wife. Maybe she is a cylon? That'd be interesting if she showed up out of the blue at the end of this season as a cylon. I wonder though if that would negate the importance of Hera as the only cylon-human anyone knows about right now though cause Lee would then be in the same situation.

The whole airlock situation totally reminded me of that scene in Event Horizon where a character finds himself in a similar situation, but the results are waaaaaay worse for him. Wonder which scenario, BSG's or Event Horizon's, is more realistic..

Certainly not one of the better episodes but I didn't mind it. Just another filler while we await the big season ending plot developments.
