I don't mind the trade at all and like the size he brings to a small team, but i'm just curious as to how much of an upgrade he is to Blake Comeau.
I know Comeau is hated on this board, but the guy was adequate at puck possession, had good skills (skating and shooting), and was one of the few forwards who could throw a hit on the forecheck (didn't do it enough for me though).
The career numbers for Galiardi and Comeau are pretty similar and they are both similar players.
It's just fascinating to see the incredible positive response to this trade. I think it's great though, this board needs the optimism.
But overall, I just see Galiardi as Comeau's replacement. The market value for both players is similar too (mid round pick).

I think the difference between Galiardi and Comeau is that there's no expectation that TJ is going to blossom into a 20+ goal scorer given the right circumstances. If he scores goals, great. But if he doesn't score goals people won't get on his case, provided he's playing well in the bottom six.

similar numbers does not mean similar players
a lot of plays died on Comeau's stick
but part of it too is that Comeau was used improperly at times - 2nd line scoring winger, 1st line center, taking shifts that people would have liked to see Baertschi get, etc
Comeau had no chance with the fans

We should just call him Gallows if he's going to be at people's neck (and under their skin)

Gilmour's number. Now, he just needs to score a Stanley Cup winning goal too.

I am glad players can choose their numbers again, as opposed to Sutter's "anything below 30" code.
