The Pirates just won their 81st game of the season for the first time in 21 years!

Clay Buchholz with 5IP, 3H, 6K in his first start since June, pretty good return for him.

argh the Rays are so frustrating right now. We hate doing the simple things like advance runners and score on sac flys.

Happy to see Oakland stretching things out on Texas now - I don't know what it is, but the A's hold a warm spot in my heart. Just a bunch of scrubs defying the odds...

Kick in the nads maybe, but being shot in the face would seem a bit extreme no? This second AL Wild Card spot is really in flux with how the Rays have come back to the field. If it wasn't for this second Wild card spot this year these races would be some of the worst ever as the only Divisions to be decided are the NL Central and AL West, and only the NL Wild Card would be somewhat riveting.

Haha, it was a fun game for me to watch... But in all seriousness, I was really expecting, and kind of hoping for a close race for the division down to the end to September, but the Rays really haven't played well at all, now only 1 game ahead of the Yankees for the WC. What is up with them?

Luckily I have had the pleasure/displeasure to actually watch almost all of the games thanks to Baby daddy snuggle time from 5-8 every night. Their problem is not executing on the little things all mental and a bad couple weeks for starting pitching.
They are getting the lead off runners on but stranding them at 1st and second. We use to play an aggressive go for any opportunity possible style of baseball and now we aren't trying to score from third on sac fly attempts that have difficult throws.
We are getting thrown out not paying attention on the base paths.
We are giving opposing teams easy runs with mental errors. Not catching playable balls in the outfield missing throws to the plate. Desmond Jennings has gone from a sure thing everyday player to someone who looks like they should be in AA
Our bull pen outside of 3 guys are really struggling keeping late inning runs off the board that used to be our bread and butter.
It just seems like instead of the speed threat of advancing runners we are going the blue jays route of trying to drive in runs with doubles and home runs.
Will Myers has come back to earth and no one has stepped up to replace his clutch hitting.
Luckily there is still a lot of baseball to be played so hopefully they can put a streak together and get hot at the right time to still win a wildcard slot. I can't even wrap my head around the fact they are still in a wild card position.

Majority owner of the Mariners and the founder of Nintendo, Hiroshi Yamauchi, passed away today.
Link
Quote:
Mariners majority owner Hiroshi Yamauchi has died in Japan at age 85. Yamauchi was the patriarch of video games company Nintendo Corp. and owned an estimated 10 percent of its worldwide holdings.
Yamauchi also held a 55 percent stake in a Mariners club he purchased back in 1992, along with a group of minority investors from the Seattle area. Prior to that purchase, it appeared as if the team was about to be offered to a group looking to relocate it to St. Petersburg, Fla.
|
I thank him for saving the Mariners from moving but he also never attended a game in person. Hopefully his death will finally mean the end of Lincoln and Armstrong and turn the page of inept and unaccountable management.

The Redsox clinched a playoff berth last night with a complete game, two hitter, from... Jon Lackey??? Only one more win or a Rays loss to clinch the AL East.

Bucs and Reds are both in. The ghost of Mike LaValliere can rest easy now.
KC with longest current postseason drought - last time was 1985 WS. Toronto now in 2nd spot - 1993 WS. Nothing else even close.

You are right. Dumb announcers for the game said Yankees magic number was two I guess he didn't clue in it was two against the Indians and not the Rays!
