Also, it's not like some dumb kid who gets accepted to Duke is all of the sudden going to be smart and get a 4.0 in advanced physics. They weren't good enough to get in in the first place they are looking at 2.0 in "athletics" at best.

I would also assume, as far as football players are concerned that it's basically a 30 hour a week (plus game day) commitment.
Without a doubt it is. Playing big time NCAA football isn't all that different from playing in the NFL in terms of time commitments. NCAA regulations restrict formal activities, but anyone who thinks athlete demands are limited to formal activities is out of their mind. I'm blown away by the guys who manage to graduate on time (or ahead of time), let alone the guys who are Rhodes scholars.

Yup, Andrew Luck went to Stanford and had a 3.5. I don't care if that degree was in "athletics" (it wasn't, it was architectural design ), a 3.5 at Stanford is amazing.

Just saw one of the worst calls ever in the SC/UCF game.

A receiver went up for a ball and caught it, and was levelled by the SC player...who led with his shoulder and jarred the ball out...a tackle/doing his job. Instead he was given a major foul and EJECTED from the game.

Absolutely awful.

That being said, UCF up 7 and driving late in the 2nd quarter. Would be a pretty big upset if it stays this way, but a long time left yet.

EDIT: Now the officials have reveresed their decision about the ejection (without video review BTW...which is weird cause i would ask..what changed?) but kept the PF penalty in tact.

Ridiculous

Another terrible call that QB had the ball. Doesn't matter as CF isn't going to win that game but not surprising to see SEC team getting help from the refs.

Big Game Bob showing up again, ND down only 27-21 after throwing 3 picks and having a mere 52 yards passing through 3 quarters.

This Oregon/Cal game is gonna be ugly. It's raining buckets (along with 40mph gusts of wind). First quarter isn't even half way over and there's been about 7 fumbles already.

Who knew the key to the ND's success was Manti Teo's GF.

USC fires Lane Kiffin, and to show you how badly they wanted to they announced it at 4:50 am PST. Kiffin should never be allowed to coach anything above pee-wee again, how he's gotten his 3 jobs is likely a deal with the devil.

Kiffin has been a disaster at USC but it isn't like the Raiders or Volunteers were world beaters before he got there or after he left.

He has an abrassive personality and many people don't like to see guys get opportunities so young but (outside of USC) he was fine compared to the others in the two jobs he had. He certainly was a better coach/recruiter than Derek Dooley and despite all the hate they spew at him Volunteer fans would be better off with Kiffin there than the guys they have now.

I noticed this orange thing last night at the bama game. I took a few photos of it even though it was a very long way away. It was flying horizontal to the sky and didn't seem to be falling. About 20 mins after that there was another one, it would have been too close to be another aircraft since the blimp was right above us, and it didn't have any flashing lights.

here are the photos I took

It looks like a small star in the middle of the sky

here is what it looked like once I cropped it as much as possible

Is Mack Brown's time come to end at Texas?

Quote:
Texas athletic director DeLoss Dodds will announce Tuesday afternoon that he will step down next August after 32 years in the position, three well-connected sources told the American-Statesman on Monday.

Dodds, 76, will announce his retirement after vigorously denying a report earlier this month that he would leave his job before the end of this year. Dodds will stay on through Aug. 31, 2014, and will remain on as a consultant through 2015. Dodds could not be reached for comment. He will receive a $1 million annuity in August.

"He's going to announce it tomorrow," one of the well-placed sources said. "They were going to do it today but decided to wait because they didn't want to detract from the passing of (legendary former Longhorn quarterback) James Street."

The source said Texas President Bill Powers will lead the search for a successor and would very much like to have the position filled possibly before Dec. 1 although that's probably overly optimistic. The source added that West Virginia athletic director Oliver Luck, a graduate of the Texas Law School, would be an important candidate "to keep an eye on."

Another rumored candidate, Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby, has repeatedly denied that he would be interested in the Texas job.

Yep... only glimmer of a chance he has is winning every Big 12 game which might buy him another year. However, that glimmer will be destroyed in Dallas in a couple of weeks.
