Commandant: Thanks a lot for posting these. I'm looking forward to the 15-32 range kids to get a better look at some of the guys that might be available with CGY's other two first round picks.
Enjoying the analysis.

For a change, I liked the music on the video. If we drop to that pick he sounds interesting.

Defensively, Ristolainen is a punishing physical presence. He loves to throw the body and can deliver some big hits. He also battles hard in corners and in front of the net, and has shown a decent mean streak. Like many 18 year olds, he will need to bulk up and add upper body strength before he can be effective in this style at the next level.

Yeah, we don't make the videos, we just try to link to whatever package was made most recently, as I try to get recent highlights rather than ones that are a year old. So sorry about some of the music selections, they aren't my favorite either.

I hope we don't suck enough to get a top 3 next season, but that just might be the case. Sam looks like a hell of a player from the games I've seen.

I've had the same thoughts...with this added "fantasy thought"...the Flames end up with the first pick overall this year-looking tougher now-and then after trading down this year with Fla/Colorado, the Flames get one of those team's first pick next year, and end up with the first pick overall next year and pick Sam.

I believe that Pulock has the bigger offensive potential. While the points this season between Pulock and Nurse are similar, keep in mind that Pulock was the highest scorer on his team and didn't have a lot of help. Put him with better players and he'll score more. Nurse had some help in Sproul and the SSM forwards.
Don't want to diminish Nurse, who I think is great. Just want to pump Pulock who I think could be an elite offensive D.

My feeling is that we have enough offensive D although that has little to do with your rankings. I wouldn't mind though if we drafted a big tough defenceman such as Nurse or Ristolainen. Of course Pulock isn't no midget either.

Yeah, Pulock isn't bad defensively either, and he's willing to hit and play physical as well. Defensive game not as polished as Nurse, but he has the potential defensively as well.
All three look to be good in both ends of the ice and play physical game. Four, once Zadorov is added to the mix (though lowest offensive potential of the four).

I really want the Flames to load up on centers at this draft, so I'm hoping BPA with each pick is a solid option at center, based on their list.
But a solid, big tough all round Dman wouldn't hurt my feelings so it would be great to strut away from the draft with:
One of: MacKinnon/Barkov/Lindholm/Monohan
One of: Jones/Nurse/Zadorov/Ristolainen
Would have to trade up though to walk away with one out of each of those groups of players, so it's highly unlikely the above scenario happens.

With the Flames winning right now, and looking like they HAVE to win the lottery in order to draft in the top 4, I have just relegated myself to thinking BPA, regardless of position.
Yes, teams win championships with strength down the middle, but that is not the end all of success. Teams win with franchise players. I hope that regardless of position, Flames just draft BPA who is the most likely to turn into a franchise player. There will be other drafts. Baertschi (and possibly Jankowski, IF he really develops) are the closest things in the organization as a franchise player (closest, not saying they are or they will be). Flames need to load up on franchise players regardless of position. I also hope for a center, but any position where they actually gain a franchise center would be most welcome.

I would like to hear bigtmac19's take on Kerby Rychel. He seems like an interesting prospect that may be around with our second pick.

When you compare him to Jeff Skinner do you think he'd have a similar ability to step right into the NHL & tear it up in a similar way?
If that's the case then I'm not sure why people aren't very interested in picking him...

The comparison is more in terms of style. The great edgework, the shifty skating ability, finding holes in the defence, a great shot and goal scoring ability, coupled with good vision and passing skill.
As far as being NHL ready. Having three seasons of junior (due to the late birthday) certainly gives him a leg up. But I'm not sure that alone will be enough. He's probably got at least one more year in the WHL ahead of him, if not some AHL time. He needs to bulk up a bit.
