There is just no way this works, as others have said, people will just gravitate to the next breed... Not to mention the question of who is going to pay for this and ENFORCE this? Husky types are responsible for more fatalities in Canada, might as well head up north and pitch your idea.

lol. When you said:
Quote:
The other side of the story is starting to come out today...The person with the pitbulls (Jaquish) only owned one and was pet-sitting the other two.
When the other two dogs (Pomeranian and Great Pyrenees) started to approach, Jaquish called to the owners to call them back. They either didn't call them back or the dogs didn't listen. Either way, he then leased all three of the pitbulls. The Pomeranian circled them twice before jumping and biting one of the pitbulls in the nose. The brawl then ensued. The girl (teenager) was injured when she tried to pull the Pom out of the brawl.

You implied it was the teenagers' faults. You see, people quote information like the above for one of two reasons. 1. To support their opinion. or 2. To illustrate what the opposition is saying, then they typically go on to refute it.
It's obvious you quoted that because it supports your opinion or at least the version of events you would like to believe. Why are you pretending that isn't the case? haha
Anyway, the more important point that you don't care to acknowledge is that when something goes wrong and pit bulls are involved, it goes terribly wrong. The same can't be said for most other breeds, thankfully.

Oh good gawd. No, sometimes people post information just to show there is more to a story or two sides. Sharing information doesn't equal support of said information; it simply adds to the discussion.
I know it doesn't support your opinion; thus you assume I must have an opposing opinion. I actually think it is too early to assign blame to one party or the other. I am interested in what animal control finds in their behavioural assessments.
I also wonder if there are any independent witnesses who might *gasp* shed more light on what truly happened.

Something about a Pomeranian "circling twice" in some kind of calculating manner before jumping into a pitbull and biting it on the nose, seems funny. That just sounds like it wanted to play. Big dogs do that to, but they tend to mind their strength. It's just dog behaviour.

What more information do you need, exactly? You honestly don't have an opinion at this point?
If the Pom nipped at a ####zu (or however that's spelled), can't you see that this wouldn't have ended in a dog's death and a child's maiming? Pit bulls are too powerful and unpredictable to own as pets. This story is another example of that. In your opinion, is that an unfair characterization of the breed and what happened in this specific incident? If so, why?

No I don't have a solidified opinion. #1 reason - I wasn't there.
If I were to guess at what the outcome of responsibility might be (which seems to be what you expect of me); I would say it will come down equal on both sides.
As it appears right now:
On one hand we have 2 young people out with two dogs off-leash that are not trained in recall.
On the other hand we have one adult with 3 dogs, that even while on leash he can't bring under control.

Okay, that's an acceptable answer. 50/50. I disagree with it, but it's certainly reasonable-ish. Thanks.

I'll give you the Cole's Notes so we don't derail the thread: - Pee everywhere (can't be cleaned)
- Poo everywhere (stinks and often isn't picked up)
- Some dogs are dangerous
- Smell bad and are dirty
- Social expectation to touch dogs/let them touch you when you're at friends'/families' homes (you're an a-hole if you don't)
- They bark and disrupt the peace of neighbourhoods
That's about all I can think of off the top of my head.

But all that should not allow you to hate them quite as much as you do. Put up a picket fence and you've remedied a bunch of your issues.

I just thought it was a totally pointless question. Silver hates dogs as much as Reg hates the Oilers. Anything you say is going to go in one ear and out the other. The arguments he says are totally foolish and makes no sense, he's biased beyond belief. He just doesn't like dogs.
I mean, I can't stand cats but I can obviously see the qualities some people like in them. This guy just takes it to a whole new level.

Sliver is to dogs as Spirngs1 is to servers. Even if they're perfect they'll (Sliver or Springs1) still find something to complain about.

Someone should take silver and trap him in a room with a golden retriever. It would be impossible for him to come out with a hate for dogs.

Wouldn't it be funny if the Golden ended up raping him?

Those asking about limits, I believe there is a limit of (ownership) 3 within the city of Calgary; more than than you are considered a kennel or breeder. Neither of which, as I understand it are allowed in the city limits.
As to those who say ownership doesn't matter, that "X" breed is vicious no matter what; I beg to differ. With working with rescue dogs, they come to us in all different states. Some are so completely shutdown they reject any human contact and can't walk past another animal without attackinig. The vast majority of them can be rehabilitated; I've seen it many, many times.
So just as bad dogs can be turned around into worthy pets; good pets can also be turned into bad (even vicious) dogs.
|
Sorry but that info is incorrect. they actually interviewed this guy on the news yesterday. It was the great pyrenese who circled and bit his pitbull, allegedly. Course that is what he said, and i'd believe the girls before i would believe him.
Unless they start legalizing dog fighting there is NO need to have this breed around. Sure they can seem rehabilitated but then if it snaps it's pretty damn hard to control.

You can't blame the 2 young girls. they were in an off leash park. The idiot with the 2 pitbulls should have been on the other side of the street, but he prob thought he was Mike Vick and could handle 3 on leashed pitbulls.
My shiba is uncallable, but we still let her run around the off leash park. But whenever a rottweiler, german shepard or pitbull comes i try to grab her asap. unless it's a boxer. haha It's pretty funny to see a 80lb boxer submit to a 17lb shiba.
