Went to West last night for the O&Y afterparty. The highlight of my night was the girl rubbing her boobs on my back when I was in line to get an overpriced can of beer. The patio also smelled like day old soiled underwear......helloooooooo Stampede. I missed you.
Going to the back barns tonight at the chucks. If anyone sees a guy around 10PM getting escorted out, lend a hand. I'll appreciate it.
Before I start drinking I intend on inhaling at least 3 orders of deep fried mac n cheese from fry town though. That's always the highlight of my Stampede.

That's what I had thought as well. So it's essentially his Vegas show? I mean that's fine if you know that's what you're getting going in, but I thought a lot of the hype was because it was his first "full concert" in a few years?

I've been to the Vegas show and it is well worth it. I had a great two hours and he is a pretty funny guy. You will be entertained!

The article indicates he will likely tour again, and I'd imagine that'll be the full band treatment. I suppose it makes sense since he's kept playing his Vegas show right up until this one and will be going right back to the Vegas show next weekend, probably no time to properly prepare and rehearse with the full band.

I'm just glad I didn't pay a crazy amount thinking that it would be a full concert- I'm sure many people did though

I guess at $62 a ticket there was no reason to think it would be the "full band" experience. But I don't recall the initial announcement being along the lines of "an intimate evening with..." which would have implied the solo show.
Oh well, I'm sure many people will enjoy the show & remember it for years to come either way. Then when he does the full band tour it'll be "yeah I saw the solo stampede show in 2012, it was way more fun"

Oh wow really? That's crazy. I've been trolling Kijijji to try and find some reasonable tickets, but I'm not going to pay upwards of $500 a ticket for that.

I think the people who were initially raging angry they couldn't get a ticket will likely feel a bit better that they can still go to Vegas and essentially see the same show, not that this was some special one-time Garth show.

Tickets for his Vegas show are $250US. So, as long as you didn't pay any ridiculous scalper prices, you're getting a deal even if it's the same show.
If you did pay a ridiculous scalper price, you have no one to blame but yourself.

Got some friends coming from out of town for the weekend who want to check out the rodeo. I've only ever been with advance tickets but we were thinking of trying to grab some the day of.
Does anyone know how many tickets they release the day of? Do people line up for these before they go on sale at 11?

Why did everyone think it was a full band? was it promoted that way?

Yes, but I'm not sure if that was ever stated officially, or if it was just assumed because that's how he's done arena shows in the past.

I think its because he hasn't done a show outside Vegas in many years, and so people automatically assumed it must be a different show than his Vegas gigs.

Also for those who don't follow Garth Brooks why would you think otherwise?
I didn't know he plays in Vegas in a sit-down slower paced style show. I saw Garth Brooks Concert and just thought that it would be a Garth Brooks Concert, first thing that pops into my mind is some fireworks, explosions, load music and him jumping around "ain't going down till the sun comes up" kinda thing. If I had been so inclined I would have bought (tried) tickets and assumed that's what I was going to see.

I think it was more of the Garth Brooks is coming for one of the biggest country/western festivals in the world, so he likely will be playing all his country music classics.

Re: Garth Brooks.
@mrbell_23: @corporatejay I had been told it's the full band. I'll tweet after presser at 3.

From the Sun article
Quote:
It’s not the show he’d like to bring to Calgary — one more reminiscent of the last time he hit Cowtown in 1996, selling out three 15,000-seat shows — but he promises that one’s coming.
Brooks has one more of three daughters he has to see off to college, then he wants to tour again, and he says as a country music act you just can’t do a tour without a stop in Calgary.
He said he’ll bring the freakshow then.
This time out, country’s humblest crooner said it’s just him, a guitar and hopefully 15,000 fans who have studied up on their lyrics and are willing to sing along.
“This one was all selfish for me — this one was getting to say I played the 100th anniversary of one of the greatest rodeos ever,” he said.
“It’s not the show that, good lord willing, is coming.
“Last time I was in Calgary I was in my 30s, I’m 50 now and I’m easily 240 pounds ... you’ve got an old fat guy coming out there (and) I’m going to need all the help I can get.”
|
Since this is coming from his mouth, I'd assume its true.
